Not saying your assertions don't sound sensible, but without some side by side test data to back them up, I'm skeptical. Can you actually find a practical situation where the difference in AWD design makes any difference -- it seems to me the Toyota design is simpler and more efficient, especially given how little AWD is actually needed (and I live in an area with 6 month long winters. Can you measure an actual difference in handling on a skid pad or drive through the cones handling test? I guess fuelly. com will give us some actual data (hopefully) on what the actual MPG difference turns out to be. I guess the good news is that there now several high MPG choices for this class of vehicle.

tire width makes HUGE difference i went from 205s to 245s on my Prius. Handled FAR better, but acceleration was noticeably slower, and mileage dropped almost 10%. All that mass around the edges to turn. But, I could corner much better and actually pull into traffic without spinning the tires and cutting the engine for 2-3 seconds, so it made it a lot safer.

honda's quality has dipped in recent years. I realize Toyota hasn't been perfect either, but Toyota is still better and their resale is better. Their hybrids are also awesome (I had one, sold it and regret that.

How come nobody will say anything about the Rav 4 hybrid issue not being able to fill the gas tank? But worried about the MPGs on the CRV hybrid?
