Tired Of Expensive Cars? Chinese Built MGs Might Be The Cheap And Cheerful Answer

How cheap are we talking? In the UK an MG can be 20-35% less expensive than the comparable Honda, Toyota or Volkswagen. That's part of the reason MG has seen a meteoric rise in sales over the last 15 years in Britain. Currently the MG4 is the second best selling EV in the UK and actually beats the Model Y at the sales race when you exclude company cars. It's not all upside however, the cars do feel cheap here and there and the designs? Well let's just say there is plenty of copy-cat going on.

Rather, the government would have opened the North American market to the Chinese vehicles and they ousted all these highly overpriced American clunkers which are absolutely not famous for their reliability and are assembled by forcibly unionized non-competitive factories. Or at least the Chinese will kick their ass and create real competition in this snickering market! Otherwise they will screw up their entire car industry like the British once did

Never ever. I m actively working to cut Chinese products out of my life. I m not going to buy a car surely built on stolen technology and IP. Have many friends in the auto industry and they have so many stories of Chinese espionage, phony calls, flash drives left outside buildings, and stolen computers abroad. I will never support them. Not to mention what they re doing to the Uyghurs - this alone should be enough.

The biggest problem for MG or any of the brands of course is: made in China. Of course, so is half of Walmart. That said, the real question is: How much cheaper does the Chinese car have to be? The MG HS is around 12, 000 less than a Honda CR-V. It's also about 20% less nice, but the math kind of works when you think about it that way.

Am I right to assume the new Buick Envision? (All their cars are En-something) the one based on the Chevy Trax is made in China? It's very nice looking and something I could afford w/o too much stretching. It's not hybrid or electric though. A GM version of those MG's would be a nice Bolt replacement.

I don t care if their Chinese based, these things look pretty sleek! Too bad America s perception of Chinese products is so skewed towards the negative because I would probably like to see these state side (and I m sure there are plenty of people here who will disagree with me, but again, I don t care.

I would rather have something affordable, they is still solid and reliable and not cheap, which usually ends up being disposable junk.
US government will impose so many taxes, etc. there won t be any significant savings to be had dosen t help that SAIC is state owned.

The MG 4 is competing with the VW ID3 and Cupra Born otherwise the C-segment is quite empty. Would not buy a MG, it's to cheap. The EV's Mitsubishi and Suzuki.
And remember, all prices in Europe is taxes included

SAIC Motors basically stole the technology from Volkswagen and GM in those forced joint ventures by the Chinese government to now make competitive cars. Same old formula the CCP has been using since the 90s.

We have Chinese cars in America already - a Buick and Volvo. They are not cheaper and who wants to supporting the government of a country that actively is engaged in a cyber war with the world?

Chinese made isnt a bad thing but Chinese state made has a different meaning. The Chinese government puts Muslim minorities into concentration camps. Important to know the nuance there.

This is exactly how our middle class was hollowed out and industrial cities turned to wastelands. Looking to save a buck. Don't repeat history; there is no excuse as you are aware of it.
reply

Alex, you are so kind to keep on using the word derivative instead of copy throughout the video. /S
You sure can keep the prices low when you don't have to pay for R&D.

reply

Before any of you complain about this being made in China, let me remind all of you that whatever you used to make that comment is probably MADE IN CHINA

They also have a tendency to catch fire too. Like most of them. Look it up lots of videos on it. Some car shoot fire out like a blowtorch.
reply

It would be nice if more Chinese cars became available in the US, to bring more competition and hopefully lower costs, especially for the EV market.
reply

i would rather pay more than buy a Chinese made car or any other kind of Chinese made product. China is trying to take over the world folks.
reply

That MG4 is gorgeous! Volvo and Buick are going to be Chinese built here soon, a few models already are, so not a terrible thing.
reply

Yes! Please come to the U. S. fed up with our protectionist market (who are we protecting anyway) p. s. ban the chicken tax.
