Well, you convinced me that the targeted city get around economic choice isn’t the road warrior convertible, upscale competitor. If you take 150 mile range multiplied by 1. 7 (One DCFC stop) gives you 255 miles road trip range. If you’re ever going beyond that, don’t buy this. If you only do that once in a while, don’t hesitate buying this. If you carry more than two people, you should have your head examined. I agree with you that the rear seat should be removed and this be used for exactly what it’s intention is which is a mild climate economic get around only if you can AC charge it regularly. I would lease the base trim
with nothing down. If you buy it then put in a huge sunroof it’s obviously capable of hosting for that sun run fun motif. Honestly trips without adaptive cruise would be a pain which is its greatest hint this is not its intended use case. Two small cases in the rear and a dog in the back seat for a weekend get away should be your greatest ask. It you need five cases for two people then it’s definitely about the close destination and not the journey. 28: 38

I bought my used 2014 Fiat 500e for $9k in 2017in Minnesota with only 7k miles on odometer. It has been a perfect city car. It still shows over 120 miles possible range in 70 degree temps. The Bosch battery pack is reliable and not showing any noticeable degradation helped by active cooling system after 55, 000 miles of driving. No problems. Replaced tires, windshield wipers and topped off fluids only maintenance needed. It had one minor software recall that was fixed before I owned the car. Original brakes still usable for at least 10k more miles due to regen braking. Would I buy a new 2024 Fiat 500e Not for $36, 000! Way overpriced for the new cars range and considering far more competitive offerings by other marques. Sad because they are great city cars (holds 23 bags of groceries) and all the owners who I know who have the original U. S. version won't part with them. Heck, so many were exported grey market style to Europe it raised the value of the beauties. I can still sell mine for $7000 any day of the week. But repeat, 2024 version too expensive and ridiculous lease pricing to boot.

The rear seat's good/safer/more comfy for Fido than just a cargo area! Reliability issues aside, I kind of miss the old gas model! Not mentioned is that, for a non SUV/crossover, the step-in height to the seat is actually pretty good. It is very odd that they did not just do a normal console so the cup holder (and x2) and other features could be at normal level - they obviously have the space for it. Maybe some entrepreneurial JC Whitney type come up with something to fill that space usefully. The gauge/ infotainment units are light years ahead of the discontinued gas model. Mini Cooper are you listening Cute but quirky-dysfunctional only gets you so far.
Edit: of the two alternative models Alex feels would have made more sense for the US market, I vote for the 600e. I would further vote for a hybrid variant.

A worse version of an I3. seriously Manufacturers are just not serious about creations smaller EVs. The I3 was a home run, but unfortunately underappreciated despite how far ahead of it's time it was. It has been out for near 10 years with no recalls, fires (for the ev haters. The Bolt and Bolt EUV were great cars as well (despite charge speeds) but Chevy would rather discontinue it and release several much larger cars that are the same size and then a Hummer EV. VW's Golf EV is pretty damn good for what it is but VW wanted a seperate ID line which has had a rough start here and GTI/R lovers are scared about what the EV variant will do to the brand.
Meanwhile Tesla comes out every few years and promises a smaller car for $35k then forgets about it until the next time the stock needs a bump.

I love your final summary. Shedding light on how just simply the materials going in to building a vehicle do not equate the majority of the cost of manufacturing a vehicle. As someone who works in automated manufacturing, it’s important to take in to account the entire process of building. I love small vehicles and how they’re usually style forward options, but the simple fact of the matter is, that’s not what Americans are buying. To be honest, that’s not what the whole world is buying.

I was interested in it, but I find too many desired features missing, and too many features I don't want. Things like power fold mirrors are missing, but power open doors that to me are not necessary, especially for small car like this.
Similarly, for the price, the material quality is pretty low, again not really adding much value to the vehicle.
Further more, there are very few customization options that made the 500e hard to be desirable.

My 2014 Fiat 500 looked much better inside and out. Mine had the cool Fiat badges, nice round headlights, cool chrome accents on the bumpers along with a stunning olive green exterior and leather cappuccino and cream color interior. It also got 40mpg. This new one has weird looking headlights, cheap looking seats, no sunroof, high price and lousy range. There is no reason whatsoever to buy it. Better off with a Mini

Why Didn't Fiat (i. e Stetlantis) Bring Literally Anything Else To America Was basically what I thought, when Stetlantis announced about a year ago. It was going to bring the 500e to America. For example, why not the Jeep Avenger But any other Stetlantis EV, would have been a better choice.
Sad to hear that the review confirmed what I already believed was the case: (

This vehicle isn't in a vacuum as far as price. It competes with a model 3 which isn't a large car just because this is tiny. If you don't specifically need an ev, a hyundai venue has more space and features and is still very small and likely 10k cheaper. There are just better choices at this price and at a relatively close size. It makes no sense for anyone.

Ok. You don’t like it. I previously had a Smart EV. I would cross shop this with an electric Mini. Buying the Fiat, I can already see savings in tire replacement, and economy. I used to average 3. 9 on the Smart. My Leaf was 3. 7. But that was 10 years ago. I will await the long term results of the Blazer, and if I had a choice, it wouldn’t be a GM product.

An NMC battery means you should only be charging to 80% on the 500e, which will significantly impact range/usability. I feel like smaller packs should use LFP batteries so that you can regularly use 100% of the capacity (even if there's less overall due to energy density. Its not like its going to be a charging monster either way.

A car this size only makes sense with a price under 10k.
A car is everything in North America. Most people can only have one and it needs to handle whatever can happen over the years and miles. Small cars like this cant.
Also its very embarrassing I think for some people to drive.

27: 30 Looking autoline Detroit's review of the BYD Seagull, this 500e could've cost a third as much and certainly be much cheaper than a new Nissan Versa. Just piss-poor supply chain management of Stallantis. Even a used Chevy Bolt, i3, old 500e would be way more sensible than this.

I would like this little car, it would fit perfectly with my day-to-day driving needs. However, since I yearn to move out to the countryside it definitely would not work out.
And even if I weren't moving to the coubtry the price point is what would really keep me from getting it.

17s used to be big for North American cars. I remember buying my 14 Accord Hybrid new, and worried that the 17s would pop tires. I did get flats, but it was the tires fault, not the rim. Once I changed to Micheline Defenders, I didn't have any issues, other than losing a bit of mpg.

It's baffling why American's are obsessed with larger vehicles. Data shows that most commutes and travel are with less than 2 people so a car like the Fiat makes sense. Perhaps American's are getting bigger and overweight because of all the fast foods and process foods they eat

But the Equinox is not CUTE!
I would buy this if it was the convertible. Instead, I will buy a Mach E.
Then, when they finally start shipping the convertable here it will be too late. Sad. I really wanted the 500e Convertable.
Buy, not lease

1. Should have priced it like the Bolt in its last years
2. Should have put the motor in the rear
3. Should have added a more powerful 200hp motor. In EVs more powerful motors does not mean less efficient if driven normally.

interesting vehicle that reminded me of my 2005 SMArt for Two that drives like a Go Kart. I wonder how much more miles would it give if the rear seat are removed which would make it perfectly flat for easy access for cargos as well.

for america, this car is near e-waste. slow charging, low range, no space. fiat just isn’t for us
edit: this thing is junk imo. it’s almost like they tried to be too unique with it. 2 cup holders in the whole car L
