This is the new Volkswagen Golf, the facelifted Mk8 or, colloquially, the Mk8. 5. And it sets out to right a few wrongs with the eighth-generation Golf that went on sale in 2020, which was a car emblematic of VW's recent struggles, having glitchy and confusing multimedia, a cheaper-feeling cabin that we'd like and some infernal touch-sensitive steering wheel buttons. All of those facets and more have been looked at with the latest version of the Golf, which is on sale now. This variant is an e-TSI 150 R-Line, which has a UK retail price of 31, 875 before options. It has a hybridised 1. 5-litre engine making 148bhp (150PS) and 184lb ft, a 0-62mph time of 8. 4sec, a top speed of 139mph and returns 52. 6mpg and emits 122g/km of CO2. Its crazy how much time is spent during reviews of 'normy' cars talking about how much time or how many button presses it takes to disable terrible systems or put the car in a mode where it doesnt drive like a dog. It just shows how disconnected the manufacturers are from their customers.
Yes, i know its EU legislation, but why dont they just have one big bitton that says 'driving mode' where the car doesnt try to drive itself, beep at you, slam the brakes on, nag you abiut having your window open, tell you youre speeding when you're not, disable the drivetrain. the list is endless these days.
Just have one button that turns all that crap off.

Excellent idea to show the infotainment on the move. It shows how annoying it is for right-handed people to try and accurately touch a panel. You have to steady your least used hand on the frame of the 'tablet' to make a selection with your thumb. It's ridiculous how this technology has forced us to mangle our bodies and take our eyes off the road just to change a radio station.
On a negative note, the audio on this video was very poor - I could barely make out what you were saying when you were talking about the brakes.

I could not care less exactly how much CO2 my car emits, the whole idea is covered by that it is light and reasonably small, thus ethically decent. Far better looking than any insectivorious Jap car. I do not want a screen on the dash I do not want to have to look at the control to use it. I don't want modes of any sort.

Going onto the configuration, there is now an extremely limited choice of colours, and all the best bright ones are no longer available, plus they're nearly all cost-extras at several hundred pounds. Enough reasons not to buy a Golf

Golf only has gone downhill since the superb Mk6. Awful tech implementation, dated drive trains, boring looks etc etc. If there is to be a mk9 then VW need to start with a clean sheet of paper.

With the brake pedal issues, the Golf is no longer a driver’s car, so difficult to imagine it sitting at the top of its class.
