I am baffled. Where was the Alpine A110 In the top 5, at the very least, is where it should have been.
The Vantage may be a 'fine car', but it's hard to think of it as a true 'drivers car', especially for real world British roads. It's too heavy, too powerful, has lifeless steering, and is also, for most people, silly expensive. As the reviewers rightly said, it's not a sports car (too heavy, but equally, it's not refined enough to be a proper GT either. It's a silly, pointless car, for people who like to flaunt their wealth and imagined/presumed status.
I can only conclude that it's a misguided attempt at propping up AM's reputation, in a bid to stave off their inevitable demise as a British manufacturer. If only they could design and build the kind of cars that people actually want to drive and own.
It also seemed strange to me that there was no porsche in this test. Of course no 911 S/T, because you can't buy it, and it was silly expensive at manufacturers msrp anyway. But surely, there are several porsches which would have slotted straight into your top 5, whether cayman or 911.
What was the Emeya doing in there What a waste of 3 tonnes of resources. And no, it is not a lotus. The badge is just meaningless on this car.
The Artura is a very impressive car, a very impressive piece of engineering, no doubt. But it just seems like too much for British roads. In this case, too fast, and too powerful. These cars have been created for an environment that doesn't exist outside of a le mans racetrack. The cars themselves seem like racing cars in disguise. Driving one on a public road must be an exercise in frustration.
Now the Alpine A110, that's what I call a proper drivers car. If only it had a manual gearbox.

I think I agree with that ranking, not that my opinion counts! I think I would drop the Aston and lift the Yaris because of their size and threading down a country lane. Plus I would worry about the Aston if I parked it anywhere. Cadwell is great.

Yet another half-arsed effort. Staggeringly, incomprehensively dull. Waffling endlessly with no script. Hardly any footage of the cars. Some of them missing entirely. If you begrudge making videos because you're print men, stop making bloody videos.
reply

I was surprised how high up in the rankings the Vantage was. Surely the GR Yaris is better around the corners than the Aston And the Artura is number one here and not the 750S! What’s wrong with the latter in comparison to its stablemate
reply

Yes the Mustang turned up with the wrong gearbox, but you’re telling me a N/A V8 with over 500bhp isn’t worth having on camera for 30 seconds You’re saying it’s somehow less exciting than a golf and a car that isn’t even finished

For over 20 years I've been watching British auto-world commentators rationalize their overrating of British cars and the mental gymnastics never gets old. _It's got these wheels and they turn so precisely, you can really feel it! _

I feel like the Lotus Emeya is still yet to be launched. I drove past my local dealership and saw several in the car park, I had no idea it had been launched. The photos don't do it justice, in flesh it's a stunning looking car!

Lotus elise 2nd I drove one 30 years ago and thought it was crap, not a car but a go cart. HOW THE HELL YOU CAN PUT IT ABOVE THE FANTASTIC VANQUISH, SHOWS HOW DETACHED YOU ARE FROM REALITY
reply

How is MCclaren best drivers car when, build quality, service back up is very spotty. It shouldn't qualify untill they ante up their game at factory level and quality control.
reply

Cadwell Park is a fantastic track that I love driving. Why the f. k are you not ragging those drivers cars around there All this could have been filmed in a traffic jam on the M1.
reply

Lotus shouldn’t be there it’s a milk float and a kick in the teeth to the original brand. The Porsche shouldn’t have even been included or mentioned as you can’t buy it.
reply

Its not a lotus, its a zeeker or what ever the geely brand is called. They use the lotus badge to sell the cars where people arent really into chinese brands basically
reply

Usual Autocar, track test. No camera shots out of the window; just interior shots. For me, I wonder if the cars were driven hard enough for a credible test.
reply

Strange and really dull format for the topic at hand. The conversation would be more fitting as a follow up on a podcast rather than the actual BBDC video.
reply

A prototype for the best Driver's Car 2024 It's not finished and isn't available for sale but still beat out 2 cars. Why not add jaGuar to the test
reply

What's the point in driving the cars on track, when 99. 9% will never see the track, should be city driving, motorway driving, country roads etc
reply

Nothing here that excites me much anymore, Britain's Best Drivers Car annual test begins predictably to feel like its best days are over.

Avoid wasting thirty minutes and go to the end.
Two of the most boring motor presenters on the whole of YT
Autocar DO SOMETHING!

God help me, I had to skip through. 37 minutes of two dull middle-aged men on board video, esp in the GolfR was like watching paint dry.

This video made me feel like I was at a doctors office going over my cholesterol results. Zzzzzzz They seemed UN-enthused about every car.
