There are many things to like about this car- the speedo for instance 60mph at the top 0 & 140mph at either end of the scale- what am I wittering on about I hear you saying? Until recently I had a Vauxhall/Opel Astra which had a 185mph speedo so all the usable range was compressed into the first 3rd of its total range making it harder to scan for a quick reference and really having over 100mph of itself that you-d never use legally.
So, in some ways this car is a bit of a design classic, partly that-s the strength of ideas in the original up! but the Gti brings its own things to the party as well and adds to it all not massively but enough.
The speedo is central to an annoyance also though as if you set the steering wheel at your most comfortable setting height wise (there is no reach adjustment) then you can-t see the top portion meaning you have to drive around with the digital OBC speed displayed all the time or stoop to read it the traditional way from the analog gauge.
Design classic and design fail all in one- OOPS!

The mark 1 GTI was an expensive car. It was 60% more than the standard Golf and nearly as much as a Datsun 240Z/260Z. It rusted badly and had very little equipment, poor brakes and used the driver and front passenger as part of its crumple zone. Hence it-s lightness. The fact that this cheap car gets any where near it, is a testament to modern cars and this little car in particular

It will be a very rare sight on Uk roads, especially now VW has closed all its order books for the car, to make way for the release of its Up Electric in 2020.
The Up Gti and High Up Tsi models have been discontinued, so owners of the Gti will be in possession of one very rare vehicle.
On last count, there were 675 registered Gtis in 2018, and far less for 2019.

I really, really, really enjoy bashing VW and specially the golf but I have to say I would buy one of these in a blink of an eye! Up! is the funkiest and must interesting design in the VW range and also the least pretensious one and with this amazing engine. I would get one, with no doubt!

Lots of negitive comments. from I guess people who haven't driven it yet. well I have driven it today and it is fantastic. nimble, fast, pulls very well in all 6 gears. rides great. well built. all the spec you need. try it is great fun on a twisty road. oh and I ordered one --

This car should be lots of fun, yet it doesn't seem to be much fun at all. Just a monotonous low-revving drone and an all-round nice yet unremarkable supermini. A way long from the giggles of the Mk1 Golf GTI indeed. :/

Bit of a silly review. For a start you need your phone and an app for sat nav, cruise is not standard and this reviewer criticising the car for having a small boot. It does realise its an up he's reviewing doesn't he?

It needs a JBS Tuning ( JBS of Chesterfield) Stage 1 remap, and a Milltek Non resonated exhaust.
The remap boots the power to a healthy 144Hp, and the exhaust removes the gases a lot quicker.

Seems very meh. disappointing. A missed opportunity by VW IMO. With such compact dimensions, low weight and VW engineering prowess, they could of made the UP-GTI so much better!

Pop out windows, a single exhaust, drum brakes and cheap seats. I had high hopes for this car and although I still quite like it I find it disappointing.
