Dear Mr. O, I have a question regarding a 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 75th Anniversary edition. I had a code thrown for the #4 injector open circuit. Replaced all the injectors and plugs / coils while I had the intake off as preventative maintenance. After a day of driving it, we now have a P0301 - misfire on cylinder 1. I replaced the new coil and plug and again with a new one. These were quality OEM parts. The misfire code still remains and I can feel the misfire while driving. Have you come across this issue or do you have any ideas

It's not a dumb video. Sometimes the solution is sitting there right in front of us and we overlook it because it's too simple. I had a 2018 impala that would cycle the wipers every time it was keyed on. The wipers wouldn't stop on the park switch and the park signal and ground circuits tested good, so we threw a bcm and multiple wiper motors at it. Turns out that someone had swapped the wiper relay(5 pin) with the headlight relay(4 pin, so it couldn't contact ground when it was switched off.

2001 2500HD 8. 1, at 38, 000 miles had cam sensor fail, intermittent start/run. Chevrolet Dealer tried to make me
pay for replacement saying warranty only to 36, 000. I argued that part is part of the emission warranty to 50, 000
miles. After arguing for 5 hours with local Chevy and corporate they paid for it. 1 year latter I get a notice of recall
concerning all their cam sensors for that year model. smh. so yes Chevrolet cam sensors go bad.

I use various sizes of rubber stopper plugs I bought from a local hardware store to plug bores and threaded holes when media blasting. Then I found they work well to plug wheel speed sensor holes and cam/crank sensor holes, etc. when cleaning the rust around the hole. The plugs are tapered so they wont fall into the hole and will stay in place while you wire brush and blast the area w/ air pressure. Thanks for another good video.

Finding the problem is Never a Dumb video! other shop loaded up the parts canon, Oops, so here is your bill still not fixed, but have a nice day. Amazing what rust jacking will do to a perfectly almost still in good running order engine. Your diagnostic skills are second to none! I have learned so much form your videos. Thank You for sharing your knowledge.

I had a similar issue. 2006 Hemi Charger. Would randomly stall when driving through salty wet weather. Progressively got worse to when it would stall in the rain. Pulled the crank position sensor. Rust jacked at least 1/8 out of the block. Hit it with a whiz wheel and reinstalled the original sensor. Good to go. Until it dropped a valve seat!

I've been watching your videos for years. Probably 10 years. I've built my career in heavy equipment. I have learned and continue to learn many of my diagnostic procedures from you. I watch every video no matter what because of how well you explain your diag procedure. Doesn't matter what you're working on, proper diag is proper diag.

Great Video on a problem out of the Norm. So many people Fire the Parts Cannon without doing Data Driven Diagnostics. It's so sad that many shops hadn't established a high level of troubleshooting. Their Motto is: Replace the nearest part that could cause the problem and charge the customer. It didn't fix it, too bad.

just fyi i found on my 06 duramax, it would crank /no start when i parked it with nose facing downhill a little. found if i primed the fuel filter to pressurize system it would then start up just fine so i replace the fuel filter housing and no problems since. so try pumping up fuel pressure the try to start it up

I'll trade with ya' I've got a 2010 Jeep Patriot that's reading 37mph sitting still, output speed sensor is reading 0mph with a good pattern on the scan tool. data points towards the G110 ground lug on the passenger side below the overflow tank. typical CDJR problems, great video as always!

This was not a dumb video. This is a masterclass in what separates a good mechanic from a great mechanic. It was well worth the 30 minutes. I would have never guessed that rust jacking would create a large enough air gap for it to malfunction the cam sensor. Great job and thanks for the lesson.

not dumb, but wow that was a big fleck of rust! Jacking really did a number on it! Felt straightforward from the beginning, but always fun to see a different outcome, even if it's in the same wheelhouse as where we were all thinking. I'll keep it in my back pocket for my 2001 5. 3 1500! :P

So the question arrises if the sensor was defective in the first place. Or that it got rotted away from the block. And that replacing the sensor, without getting the rust build up taken care of, didn't do nothing. Since after just some rust removal it works just fine.

Good catch. Parts changers just cost people money without knowing how to fix anything, often making things worse in the process. You are actually great at researching and finding the actual issues, then fixing the issues while saving them money in the long run.

It tells me that a non experienced mechanic changed the cam sencer, an experienced mech, would have looked at the matting surface and seen the rot or rust and fixed it like you did, just do not change out parts, trouble shoot first, makes for a great mechanic.

I chased 2 new defective motocraft crank sensors for a 6. 0 diesel. To change the original one took about 6 hours. 2 new motocraft sensors and then later a new duralast sensor (that actually worked) the last sensor change took me about 45 minutes

Would you be able to test a crank sensor by using a multimeter on the signal wire and tapping the face of the sensor with something metallic.
Not everyone has a scope.

I had a very similar issue caused by either knock sensors or cam pos sensor. I diagnosed it down to one of those and I wasn't about to not do both while I was under the intake manifold! Only difference was mine would not start at all.

Not a dumb video at all. I'm no auto surgeon, but this makes me glad I've been meticulously removing rust etc at every step. I may not know if it's strictly necessary, but I'm pretty confident the rust isn't helping anything
