Subaru Legacy - Battery Keeps Going Dead For The Last 2 Years This telematics which is not specific to this vehicle, but in general is what enables the manufacture and others to spy/observe activity of a vehicle.
This is likely why they don t want the module swapped as it will report in with the wrong VIN/identifier.
For people who value their privacy, this module should not exist/be disconnected

This country has gone to the dogs. Allowing this on back order to be a common thing shouldn't be allowed in the volumes we are experiencing these past few years. It just too darn common and the public have spent large on overpriced computer based vheicles to have to put up with this kind of business model. Seems like the auto industry is excused from being a complete disaster to its customers and many others. There sure seems to be plenty of parts to build new vehicles but once sold, you are on borrowed time.

Dumb design. The old rule with any kind of network, if you can't get through, double the wait time before trying again, keep doubling the wait time if no response. Pretty soon the wait time gets up in the hourly range, problem solved. Some numbskull at whatever company made the telematics module didn't remember first week networking class.

Just remember, if I can do it, you can do it That s a very humble statement Eric, but I think it would be like a forth of July finally if the average Joe started messing with the electronics on these new vehicles I m a retired mechanic and I try to keep up with this modern crap watching your vids, nice work!

Does anyone know if Chevy On-Star systems have this problem? I have a 2012 Silverado. I use it every day so the battery stays charged. I'm just curious if it has any similar problem to keep an eye out for.

I think I'll take your path. Thx! 2017 Outback. just put a new Heavy Duty AGM battery. and we carry a jumper pack. Oh yeah. I bought my wife a new car. A Honda CR-V. Logic. Ok to breakdown on me. NOT on her; )

THANKS! We have a 17 Legacy and NEVER would pay for starlink. I'm going outside right now and pulling the DCM fuse. Thanks for that. Don't need to wear out our battery!

I sure wish these car dealers would quit trying to cram all this technology and crap people don't want on their cars the only thing it does is ADD cost

Is this another Telematics batch Orphaned by the 3G network shutdown, trying to uplink and not entering full sleep after x amount of failed attempts?
reply

Reminds me of some 2020+ Toyotas where the dcm can drain the battery, too bad they can't fix it with a firmware update like toyota. TS-SB-0095-20
reply

Yea when you said DCM I figured it was either internet, XM or some satellite system. I wonder how much draw cars with Alexa installed have?
reply

They probably have an active warrant so the government can track the vehicle
And Subaru can't tell you

Good diagnosis and video Mr. O.

So, if somehow there is an EMP, people will shit their shorts because their modern do it all cars won't work, but mine will.
reply

Great video Mr. O. At least she can drive her car with no parts just pull the fuse. More junk on cars that is not needed.
