Well I ended up buying my very first video game console instead, the NES with duck hunt back then $150 I delivered a Lotta newspapers to save for that, but my dad was extremely proud of me for setting that goal and buying it! That system got a ton of use! My dad asked me if I minded if he tried it and I said of course! GOD I miss him ! Thanks for another great video Eric and Mrs. O

I had to replace the rear shoes on my wife's Toy which was the first time I've done drum brakes in about 20 years. They were not bendix brakes, so it was different & my tools were useless. It actually went OK, but I remembered going to a class on disc brakes, way back when, where the old-timers were complaining about how difficult it was replacing disc brakes compared to the bendix style brakes! I'm so glad I can wait another 140, 000 miles before I get to replace the rear brakes again! Disc brakes rule!

You're very brave taking off those nuts holding the axles in without heating them up and putting some blaster/kroil on them. Here in NE Wisconsin, 1 out of 4 always spin in the thin stamped bracket, and you have to weld them from the other side so you can actually get the nut off. I carry spares of those brackets, as I've fixed so many of them here.
As for the backing plate coming out with the axle, that's for the CJ Dana 20's and other axles like that.

Eric, even though I'm limited in skills I truly learn from the things you do. In your opinion would adding something like LiquiMoly to a 2014 Chevy Cruze do any harm or any good Or, since I change my oil in the correct intervals would it be a waste of money Wondering if it might run smoother or quietly. Your advice and opinions mean a great deal to me and I wish you were close to Round Rock, Texas. Thanks for all you do.

AI says:
-Flat/Matte: No sheen, absorbs light, hides imperfections well.
-eggshell: Slight sheen, more durable than flat, subtle glow.
-Satin: Moderate sheen, durable, easy to clean, good for high-traffic areas.
-Semi-Gloss: Noticeable shine, very durable, great for trim and kitchens.
-Gloss/High-Gloss: High shine, very reflective, extremely durable, best for accent areas and furniture.

The torque to spec talk is so funny to me. because I know the people that would cry about it, are the ones who believe it when you say it. lol. For some reason that just warms my heart. hahahah. As someone who actually works on my own cars- I know the few places where it's actually important, and you get a feel for the rest. (as you do. Those sniveling Whimperers don't understand what efficiency is.

The offical way of getting the bearing retainer off is to drill a hole approximately 3/4ths of the way through it, and a little smaller width wise. Then use a cold chisel to wack right over ware you drilled. This will cause the retainer to split and slide right off by hand or fall off. Just for those who may not have a torch, this is how it's done.

I'm feeling old after listening to Eric and the Mrs. talk about, apparently, '80s fashion. Or something.
I don't actually remember the '80s all that well, being drunk the entire time, and it's things like that conversation that make me think that the condition I was in was a good thing. Or at least not an entirely bad thing.

Excellent video again. I have a job in my shop right now that I’m going to make a Clark Griswold Christmas wish on and that would be that I want that over educated no common sense pencil neck mother loving engineer that designed this PITA timing chain system brought to my front door so I can make him repair this POS!

Metallograher here, just not as smart or paid as much as the metallurgist. You've already said it but in order to change the structure of the metal in the axle, it would take way more than just a few seconds of the heat of a torch. Keep it up Mr O you would be my mechanic if you were in south GA.

Just painting this so that when. The guy goes to the car show, he doesn't get dinged points to keep him from 32nd place (is what I thought you were going to say. Instead. So that when the next guy finds this at Wilberts, he hit the jackpot. Classic left turn when everyone was leaning to the right.

I can’t believe that in this day and age we haven’t come up with something better than a nail with a squished end and a bunch of springs to put this stuff together. I had to replace the parking brake cable in my Grand Cherokee and had to pull the seats, console and the carpet to get to it.

Eric is the best, I’ve been working on cars for 30 years and never seen anyone but myself take the level of care to someone else’s vehicle as if it’s his own. Next time I’m upstate I’m bring some ribs for your Pit Barrel. Keep up the great work.

I can tell from the sparkles that that's some HIGH-carbon steel you be cutting. I love Ol' Vic. I put a knob JUST like that one on my own press's bottle jack. Made it myself about 10 years ago and thought it was unique in all the world. Guess not. :)

Before you go burning a seal better be 300% sure it’s not Viton, not likely on a rear axle sure, but that stuff turns to a nasty acid, you can lose limbs or worse getting that on you, and in your lungs, well that’s a very bad way to go.

watching this video brought back memories of being in tech school when a classmate was trying to replace a seal on a jeep with the torch and ended up setting the shop floor on fire and burning the hoses for the torch slightly

I know you can't show it but at 35: 47 the spritz of Fluid Film should have been a path on all the parts because the only use they will see is next year when the official inspection station guy chrcks them for functiin.
