You should have put a warning on this video for everyone who has prostrate problems like me my bladder was definitely flushed out after watching I can remember having a Science lesson many years ago in school and are head teacher who was very much it to the subject and always kept me interested telling us how soap and washing powder worked it made the water wetter and broke down the surface tension that is probably why the chemicals you are using feel Slimy I wish a had pursued my interest in science more but I was also very interested in mechanical things my dads side of my family most of my uncles were mechanics they were taught by my grandfather who was a fitter by trade and owned was on Garage at one time he owned Model T Fords and Morris bullnose which he use to rent to taxi drivers my dad and my uncles all learnt how to drive in them my after level school became a telephone engineer now retired after 50y it turned out to be a good career we are abele to holiday in Jamaica twice a year and still keep my wife’s and my car on the road my wife car she has had from new is a 2003 Ford focus 1. 6 ebony with 68. 000 miles on the clock now but because it has been well looked after it runs like clock work but we did have to jump start it this week because we had not now use it in 3y weeks and the cold weather had not now help the battery we kept it because it is a member of the family and you always get people looking at it now because they are becoming Rare on U. K. roads now

Nice you were able to help on the cheap, and that it went well. I put up with a leaky heater core on my 88 Ford truck years ago. When I finally decided to do something about it, I discovered just how easy it was to replace. Remove the glove box, remove 6 screws on a plastic cover on the heater box, pop off the hoses under the hood and remove and reinstall the new heater core. I believe it took me less than 30 minutes start to finish, then kicked myself for not doing it sooner.
They should all be that easy!

I believe it took me less than 30 minutes start to finish, then kicked myself for not doing it sooner.

Years ago I had an old Mercury Comet that would put out just enough heat to prevent frostbite. A few months later I was running the garden hose in the middle of summer and thought, Why not unhooked the heater hoses and ran the water through the heater core and into a 5 gallon bucket to see what might happen. Lots of mud and rust came out and I let continue running for a long time. . I suppose the heater core was the low spot of the system. Next winter the heater worked like new, or plenty good enough.

When I worked for Chrysler way back starting in 1979, we did a few heater cores that were plugged up. I even had a new Plymouth Horizon that had 50 miles come in for the same problem. Reversed flushed and found metal shavings causing blockage. Cleaned out and never had any more problems. I guess poor quality control at that time since Chrysler had filed for a Loan in 1980. I like Wynn's Radiator flush as I could leave in my old vehicles for 1 week and after draing, the radiator looked like shiny new!

I know what you mean! We had a new 2013 and a 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan that had to be flushed before winter or there would be no heat or very little heat on you guessed it---the coldest day of the year! Talk about freezing! We finally got rid of the Dodge line and bought a Chevrolet Traverse and knock on wood, we haven't had any problems with heat issues yet and it has 42000 miles on it! It just rides and operates better than the Grand Caravan.

But the really sad thing is that the hard water deposits that clog the heater core are caused by using tap water in the cooling system. Use distilled water when you mix you 50/50 anti-freeze (or top off) and your clog problems go away.

there a short cut not pulling the dash put 1 in my sons chrysler 200 bought a osc brand had all kind of problems with that brand bouht a spectrum worked great cutting the lines and splicing the lines with heater hose is the way to go you use 5/8 heater hose to connect the pipe is 11/16 i used a drill with a stone that barely fit in the end it increased the inside diameter with out taking material out of the inside

Funny this dropped now! I bought an ancient (2005) Sable last July after my Kia got killed by Bambi’s cousin, Pinball. As it got colder this Fall, it seems a bit weak. I thought to myself, I wish Eric O would do a heater core flush so I can see it again. I think he has an old one, but I never remember to look. Thanks, man! I’ll have to give this a shot! Nice work!

Prestone had a kit that you used to be able to purchase that was a flush kit, and had their own additive you'd put in to flush out the system. Don't know if they still make it (this was back in the 80s and 90s. But Eric. you live in the PRNY. how is it that they allow something to hang off the rear-view mirror! I'd figure the fun police would make that a no-no

Hey Eric, try a check valve on the inlet side of the pump and a priming connection on the outlet side of the pump. Don't run the pump dry. It used the fluid to lubricate the bearing. The motor screw is used to bleed the air out of the bearing. Pump will last day longer. Also, run pump with motor shaft in a horizontal position, if vertical bearing won't last

As a plumber I'd recommend a Submersible water pump. The pump you're using is not really a pump, it doesn't make a lot of pressure, it just creates flow. They are commonly used on boilers for in home heating. I use a submersible pump to flush out tankless water heaters and just leave it all in a bucket when done, hoses and all. As a plumber I'd recommend a Submersible water pump. The pump you're using is not really a pump, it doesn't make a lot of pressure, it just creates flow. They are commonly used on boilers for in home heating. I use a submersible pump to flush out tankless water heaters and just leave it all in a bucket when done, hoses and all. to me your approach just addressed the symptom and did nothing to address the problem because as anyone who has ever had to replace engine freeze plugs the engine block is full of the same sediment that clogged the heater core and without aggressively flushing the block also chances are the heater core is just going to clog again sooner then later.

I'll have to say after the second blast with the garden hose it looked like it had a okay flow. I've had really good luck flushing mine with a garden hose. Exception to that is when one was corroded totally that one did end up leaking. But I must have done this 20 or 30 times by now so probably a lot less than you. Thanks for another good video

Had to do this on dad's car. The amount of rust I got out was crazy. I started servicing the car when it was 6 years old and dad always used water in the rad even though it had an alloy head and serviced it on miles rather than time (serviced ever couple years. That heater core lasted another 4 years. He bi-passed it when it finally died.

CLR Where is all the calcuim coming from in the cooling system. Where was the user getting their water from and how did they add so much it plugged the heater core Maybe I have been lucky as I have never had either a heater core or radiator plug up due to calcuim, ever and I have owned cars for over 50 years.

On that little pump, I have one like that because I got the idea from you, I started unscrewing that plug and spraying WD40 in there and running it then blow it out with air and spray in more WD40 and store it that way, doesn’t get stuck this way. I hate working on my tools when I’m trying to use them.

Awesome work. Without flushing the rest of the coolant loop do you and/or the customer worry it will get gunked right back up with anything still floating around in the system Would it be better to spend the extra couple bucks getting the entire thing flushed vs. just the heater core.

If a heater core is that clogged up, wouldn’t it stand to reason that the entire cooling system is that way and could very well happen again in short order Would it not be advantageous to replace the radiator and thermostat as well as blast out what you can from the cooling system

I sent my 07 Ram to the shop for a heater core replacement. They called me back before lunch and said its ready and only charged a couple hours of labor. I kept saying Wow, I thought this would be all day. I'm guessing they tried this trick and it worked. Saved me a ton of $$.
