Back in August I bought a 2018 Jaguar F-Pace from Carmax. Carmax only had one key fob, and it looked like it had been chewed on by a dog. I found a replacement shell for the fob on eBay for less than ten bucks which gave me one good functional key. While changing the guts from the fob that came with the car to the new shell, I made note of the part number on the PCB and the FCC code. I then returned to eBay and for $50 bought another fob which had the same part number and FCC code as my working fob, which my local Jaguar dealer was able to successfully program for me at the cost of one hour of shop labor. Had I purchased the fob from Jaguar, it would have cost me $650, plus the hour of labor. Naturally, the local Jaguar dealer admonished me that they might not be able to successfully program the fob I sourced, and I'd still be on the hook for their labor cost, but I threw those dice and didn't come up craps for a change.

I once had to replace the ECM and BCM in a Ford F550. Them came the programming for the ECM, and the BCM. Then because the truck had a key fob the key part needed programming to the ECM for starting and running, followed by the fob needed programming to the BCM for the door locks. Of course both key fobs needed programming. Glad we had the Ford IDS that day.
This F550 and a second F550 both needed their ECM's programmed that day. They also had the almost exact same VIN's except for the last digit. One had a 7 the other had an 8. The Evil Twins I called them. Both came off the assembly line one after the other, and the L. A. Dept. of Water and Power was blessed with both of them. Their DOM's were sometime in 2008.

Love your videos I learn just about every time I watch them. Question off topic I see you have the autel maxisys ultra I no your a shop as I am my question is do you pay their subscription fee every year or every couple I don't seam to ever get cars over 2020 I just think the subscription fee is so crazy for this tool I mean I see you use harbor freight D10 I can purchase that for almost autels 1 year fee. Not trying to sound cheap just trying to get the most for my buck I love my autel you would think after the cost of the tool the subscriptions would be cheaper then they are. Thanks

Transponder Island won't show me prices without logging in. lol. Ac3 Hardwar3 still cuts the keys for $1, shockingly. I've had good luck with the simple $10 to $15 keys/fobs on fl333bay. (for 4 different vehicles so far. The main thing you have to watch out for is that they s3ll the shell or casing only in most of the listings. So people don't realize that they it has no board inside and is only the outer shell. That can burn you-- so read carefully; because they often try to hide this fact.

First of all, I would never buy Anything built by GM. To be honest, I will probably not be buying any vehicle from any company. They have all lost their minds, and they all expect their loyal customers to bail them out of the fix they put themselves into. I think this may be just one more disaster that Obama and Biden thrust onto the American people with their ridiculous CAFE standards. There has NEVER been a bigger disconnect between the consumer and the manufacturer as to what people actually want.

I had a 2001 Chevy that did the same thing. Anti-theft system. Dealer charged $745 to change ignition switch and new key. Same thing happened again a month later. Had car towed home this time and got into diagnosis myself. Finally got to a point that I read the Owner's manual section on 'starting the car' Behold, system didn't read the key code! The fix Inseret key in ignition, turn to on and waite 11 minutes until 'security' light went out. Car started from then on!

Didn't take me long to spot Eric's collection back when I started watching SMA. MOF I have parts on-hand and unopened from the Rock right now. Waiting on my shade-tree to warm up.

Hey, anyone else running into an issue with the audio track being stuck on something other than the original one If I'm signed in it's defaulting to either french or spanish dubbing and I cannot switch it to the default audio track. If I'm signed out it's the default track and I can switch it.
Mr. O, if the auto-dubbing thing is something you can turn on and off on your end, be aware it's causing issued for some viewers right now.

Now I lucked into a rust bucket of my own!
Said I'd NEVER EVER own another rusty one, but this time the price was right and the mileage was low and the vehicle is a twin to my other two. May get it started tomorrow after I repair the spark plug hole threads. We'll find out just how much I've learned here as I chase down the crusties.
Already hosed it with two full cans of FF. I may need a bucket of that stuff!

The reason your Autel tool is dead after 2days is a failed cell in the battery pack. Been through this with several Autel tools. If you pull the pack after charging and lay it on the counter and look at it with a thermal camera after several hours you will find a warm spot or several. These are the failed cells which will drain the battery. Eventually they will cause it To not charge as the thermal circuit will trip.

Eric, you did nothing wrong, Autel says the XP200 that comes with the IM508 will not read Ford keys for some reason. You need the XP400 for that. I work with a Locksmith also so I'll definitely check them out. a quick cheap fix or to test if they don't have a lot of money you can program you a Superchip to Ford, program it and glue it into the case. As long as the other chip is not reading it shouldn't interfere.

6: 54 I know what happened, the customer got a new key and didn’t program it to the car, ford after 1 attempt will lock the ignition system to prevent theft, there’s a procedure that requires an original key that needs to be in the car to allow the unprogrammed key to be programmed, if the car has an owners manual it’s in there. I’ve got a focus and have programmed a few keys for it.

On my 2009 Ford Fusion, it was the PCM power relay. it would just stop running going down the road and the computer would say 'security shutdown', only its not supposed to shutdown going down the road. It was intermittent and gradually got worse, to the point it wouldnt start at all. Replaced the relay in the fuse box and viola started right up.

How about replacing the battery in those keys first and seeing if that fixes it. If the internal battery is degraded to a certain extent, there could be a voltage drop in the key itself, and when that key is inserted, it triggers an error in the ignition system because the ignition system isn’t getting the optimal voltage from the keys transponder.

One of these scan tool companies needs to make it so you can hook up their machine and go in and turn off all that security stuff and then be able to use plain non programmed keys. I even take the tumblers out of the ignition cylinder so any key or something can be stuck in and turn the switch. Ain't no one gonna steal it round where I live.

to program the fob on a ford you just have to turn key off to on three times and press a button on the key fob then press the other button on the other fob and so on up to 6 fobs even at the dealer ship we had to wait the 10 min and sometimes the key did not take the program, so we have to try it again it sucked thanks for the video

What you see here folks in the first 3 minutes is quite clear.
he has the same frustration of what the heck, throws up his hands;
but he has the experience from his past that makes him wise enough to know where to start and have a few plans in the pocket to solve the unknown.

The key has two components; the inductive component where the car recognises the key numbers for the immobiliser and the RF component which allows the key to control the functions does open close, etc.
The inductive component of the key was clearly faulty.
I learned that from a locksmith who fixed one of my keys.

Pretty surprised you don't have your own key cutting machine. I worked at a place doing lots of programming and no crank no start work. and we had a machine and bought keys in bulk. Key cutting machines can be had for pretty cheap these days. I was actually just looking them up on ebay the other day.

I would have tried to reprogram the original again too. Maybe it was just corrupted and needed to be reflashed and that's it. I still would have sold them new keys, and told them that the original key could still go bad at any time, so don't use it as your daily. (if it could even be repaired at all)
