2009 Jeep Compass / Patriot Corroded Relay Box Repair / CEL P0480, P0481, U0100, P0691, P0693, C2202 This a video I tried to do a live diagnosis on just to show a little bit of the process of the repair this vehicle and diagnose it. I did jump the gun a little thinking I would have to cut the whole mess out of there but a new day with fresh eyes reviled only a few bad pins and was easily savable by using used parts. Why didn't I get a repair end from Chrysler? Its because they dont make it unfortunately. I think all in all the repair went well and the customer was happy. Yeah, here by where I live, there's an auto salvage company located where some of the old GM Plants used to be located at. What buildings were wrecked, they left the concrete floors which now act as the lot where they park all the salvage vehicles in nice neat rows. No mud, standing water, just like a parking lot. At any rate, They've got a lot of Liberty's. Patriot's & Compass's. You can even pay them a fee & they'll pop off the parts you need, so winter doesn't have to be your downfall. You order what you need, they tell you when you walk in that your parts are ready. Since we have a 2007 Liberty that I already looked at & yep, the fuse block & that relay block was starting to look trashed. As for my 2010 Patriot, I'll probably look at my fuse block as well & just get when I think we need, leave all the fuses & relays in & for that additional 15, walk out with loaded fuse blocks, which if they're all in good shape, we'll probably end up with 120 in parts, uses & relays for 35. Then once the weather starts to get warmer, I'll get my son to work with me & we'll just put a weekend aside & replace all those corroded blocks with newer/cleaner parts. I already replaced parts on her Liberty & man oh man it was nice to not mess with a bunch corroded parts. I just have to say thank you for posting this video because we actually have 2 Jeep's that'll need some clean newer looking parts to install, so all those codes disappear.

CHEAP PARTS. Read on.
My Dodge Caliber has the same set up with that relay box in that location and 1 yr ago had crusties on 2 relays similar to this video. The plastic box was crusty just like Eric had in those 2 places, but the box actually is designed for 6 relays but they only populate terminals and relays for 4. I moved the terminals from the 2 crusty relays to the unused places in the block. There were a couple terminals corroded that i crimped on new ones. I ordered new terminals 50cents each and new relays 4 each from Digikey online. Couriered to my door next day. I have part numbers here if anyone needs. Oh and I wrapped the block with thick plastic and tie wraps to shield from future road spray.

South Main Auto Repair LLC. Ya know, I believe that I fixed one of the problems on my 2010 Patriot. The ground Strap from the engine to the strut tower was corroded & shot, falling apart. The Jeep was originally from NY & now in Michigan. I replaced it & next I'm gonna check the small harnesses that go into the fuse block & see if the 4wd! is corroded. I've heard that is usually why that light comes on & won't allow the 4wd to work. Other than that, there are actually no codes except the o2 sensors & I already know that with 185k, the cats are probably clogging up. If you do catch my comment, would you agree with what I'm thinking could be the 4WD! light popping on. Thanks & great video.

Great video. I have a 2010 Compass with a constant P0480 code. Doesn't clear. I checked the relay box, all good.
If I have the middle relay of the 3 out, and turn the ignition on, (but engine not running, if I plug in the relay or short the relay switch contacts, I hear a clicking from somewhere on the right side of the engine. Any idea if this is normal, or what might cause the clicking? With plugging in the relay, it clicks for about 2 seconds and stops. Because with plugging in the relay the clicking starts, the relay must be engergized. By shorting the switch contacts of either the other 2 relay locations (with relays removed) 1 or the other fan will run.

I have a 2008 jeep patriot 4x4 automatic. My whole relay box was green not good. So I did go to pick a part and found a 2009 jeep patriot relay box all wirers matched except on my jeep I have two kg green wirers plus 3 little green wirers? That isn't on the one I picked up. So if I cut the wires from my old one and solder them together with on to the other same color wires! What do I do with the 3 little green wirers? And what are they for anyways? I do have a remote start in my jeep. But I have no remote for it. Please help me. I have a 2008 jeep patriot manual coming in mail. But because of the coronavirus it will not be here until june 11. 2020.

After watching many of videos this one popped up, I don't understand why manufacturers don't use dielectric grease on all under hood connectors, relays and fuses, having lived in Cleveland for many years and seeing what brine, rocksalt and the other gunk winter sprays cars with I have always used dielectric grease on all my out in the open stuff, had to repair a few on cars that I had bought but that one of the first things I have always done, never had one corrode after doing that.

I personally wouldn't ever own a Chrysler because of this problem has been with them awhile going back to the 80s.
This man has integrity and is honest as the day is long. (A Great American) hes about 4 and a half hours from me in Pa.

Great video. I have a 2015 jeep compass and I am getting error code u0401. I looked it up and it has something to do with the engine module. A red light bolt comes on the consol along with the check engine light. Was wondering if a warrant covers the repair and if I need to pay any money out of pocket for repairs.

I personally like when it's a bad problem and you make t look easy by using your tried and true methods Professor. Garden variety is ok, especially when there is salt involved, but when you combine salt with e electronics that's cool! Just glad I don't deal with salt haha! Keep up the good work and nice camera.
