How you should adjust new carburetor low/high mix for 6000/19000 without rev counter? Old McCullough (three membranes at a those time, but nowadays one main spring loaded valve-membrane for a vacuum gasoline pumping with a plastics lip membrane to keep low side pressure in working cycle of piston) setting was 1/3 and 2/3-4/5 open from close position ( or was it one turn then those fractions - at 60's I know that - even I was ten years old and father tried to give/split me his knowledge, but now a days. )as a base setting and hopefully get it run, then use your musical ear/feel for fine tuning! To adjust those mix hex-nut-screws with a spring load, you need a 'special' (slim) hex type bit or grind/lathe it yourself from stock/standard size or in some case just a small plastics pipe is a temporary solution. In Finland, the full gasket/membrane set is worth of 20 euros and a new Chinese carburetor cost about 60 euros. If there is a air leak in carburetor throttle axle, then go a new one or better yet: buy a new chainsaw - you bought it for a work, not to look at and save it for you unborn children's! My back hate chainsaws, because they still are heavy, but remembering in my fathers 'chainsaw' repair shop: there was two men saw with an outer carriage rail. It weighted about 60kg/130pounds (manufactured just after or during WW2) - hooray for a new plastics/alloy ones for 5kg/11pounds. Am I realistic or just want a moon from the sky to want 2kg/4pound one with more power (turbo)/durable construction, etc. ? More: How about to use a 80% water and 20% oil mixture for chain lubrication like used for metal saws and a like? Do the 'oil' pump get rusty? If so, then should I go for a rock chainsaw with a full water cooling/lube with some carbide/diamond chain?

Damn, you and I are like brothers from different mothers! We think alike, work alike, have same taste in foods, love animals, live in the woods, hunt, fireplace, side carry on the right, but I draw the line on a dirt floor in the work shop, country or not! Get that cement truck up that driveway and backed up to the garage door, start pouring that floor. THEN SEAL IT! SO NO OIL STAINS. Never put my creeper wheels in the dirt. Good carb replacement job! Well done, Eric! Mrs. O. is proud of you!

I had one of those Chinese carbs really throw me off. Set the high and low mix about 1 turn out and it would just start and die. After lots of fiddling I realized you can only turn the screws about an 1/8th turn out otherwise it's way too rich.

Its more expensive but I only use pure gas (ethanol free) in small carburetor engines such as chainsaws and mowers. I just mix with oil and keep rest for mower. I never have to use any kind of winter stabilizer at all.

Good save on the chain saw carb Eric. While the products from China are convenient and often useful, it says a lot about the Wests future as manufacturers that they can sell decent stuff so much cheaper than we can.

love the safety gear. fresh petrol and a good oil mix works every time. my experience with strimmers and chainsaws involves replacing the fuel lines as well. those links are well fiddly.

Is there no non ethanol gas available where you live in NY? We have available here in Florida for boats, mowers, m lawn tractors, old Clasic cars like my 69 big block Corvette.
