Im assuming the wrenches are just like the sockets and are forward and reverse capable so you probably dont need to flip it if you need to put the fastener back on? Im actually contemplating buying these over the Milwaukee max bite wrenches to use on that one bolt I can never reach with a socket on turbo Pedestals on exhaust manifolds on large diesel generators. I love the socket versions of these theyve saved my ass more than once.

On the recessed bolts. you used a drill bit - sounds like a great idea. So why use a drill bit that is slightly bigger than the hole?
What if you used one that was the same size as the hole? The the threads would guide the bit straight anyway, and you'd still get a pilot hole/mark on the broken bolt. The slight benefit would be the first few threads would not be completely gone.

There's an invention waiting to be made, for the free tip Friday at the end. A stepped drill bit set that is flute-less on the edges so it will self center for recessed broken studs. Sort of a Vix Bit for metal drilling. A Vix bit might even work as a centerer although I've only seen them in 2 sizes, the larger of which would be too small, I think, for many stud cavities. Just a thought.

I worked for a county park dept. we had 2 ford F350 plow trucks with 351 motors, those guys would let them idle for 2 hrs sometimes was always replacing exhaust studs and bolts. I started using brass nuts where I could as the next two years I was back at it again, They were my bosses so there was no use in arguing with them on letting the trucks idle so long!

Eric you have more patience than me to drill studs out, I've done hundreds of hemis, Ford's and Chevy and I always use the mig, even on recessed studs. The way I figure it is the mig wire won't stick to aluminum so I build it out till it's out past head then weld a nut on. By that time the heat has cracked it free and they almost spin out by hand

Search Amazon for self centering drill bit which are used for pre-drilling holes for door hinges (so, woodworking, so they might not be made of high-speed tool steel, but they'd automatically center the bit for you without damaging any threads. You could use them just to drill the initial dimple, like you're doing now.

How much more would it cost for them to go up one size and go to stainless studs and nuts? Maybe a dollar per engine?
Eric would it make sense to offer a stud upgrade service? Offer it at say 70, 000 miles before things get too crusty and expensive. Or is there no price at which you would want to do more of these?

Nice. Something that bites actually being a good thing.
A good set of left-hand drill bits are good for removing broken bolts or studs. They drill holes as good as right-hand bits but if a left-hand bit catches while drilling it can sometime start turning the bolt or stud and twist it out all on its own.

Hello Eric, you should think about using left hand drill bits for drilling out a broken recessed bolt. Nothing ventured nothing gained. Many times the boat just comes out.
