We just traded off y wife's 2012 Captiva with over 112, 000 miles and not one major repair. Just tires, battery, oil changes and a few car washes. BUT! the one thing that I did experience was when the battery is getting low on voltage, you can not remove the key from the ignition, in fact you can not even turn the engine off! I was told by the dealer this was by design so you don't get stranded. Oh really! That was the only problem with the Captiva. Only one wheel alignment after on set of new tires were installed the the tire guy checked the alignment and accomplished that for us. We had just a slight pull to the left, was not really that bad, but enough to get your attention. One other was replacing the cruise control unit on the steering wheel, Now that was fun, you have to remove the driver's air bag. Thank goodness for YouTube.

Eric has all the nice tech toys for sure! I recently bought a Chinese knock off MDI/Tech2 from Amazon bundled with GM GDS2 & Tech2Win software and pass thru support for programming via SPS (Still need a subscription. That thing has been a lifesaver for diagnostics and module programming. I definitely wouldn't recommend for a professional tech due to licensing, but for private use it is freaking awesome and invaluable.

I know the GM BCM's don't like losing their ground(s) and if I remember right there's a TSB for this.
Always interesting to wonder why they fail?
I always worry about it when disconnecting them. they warn against doing so without disabling the battery in the TSB. But who knows, they warn about doing that on everything so?

Just recently started watching you. Love the commentary. Love the details. I will be long time follower.
I work at LKQ junkyard and 8/9 out of 10 times I can pull a sellable part like console/dash. ext without any reference, alldata.
The times I do break things makes me fear working at repair shop.

So incredibly complicated to fix or repair autos today. The average home handyman cannot do it any more, Our best solution is to find an independent auto repair shop, treat them right, stick to our day jobs.

If you think GM is a pain in the ass, you've apparently never worked on fords, bmw, mercedes, Lexus, audi, or Volkswagen. gm is one of the easiest to work on. Definitely the easiest for programming.
