In a previous video www. youtube. com/watch? v=hl_rKGubDKk&t I left yall hanging after replacing the BCM so now it is time to have a look at the ECM and flush this toilet!

Captiva? You mean cRaptiva: P; ) And all this digital module nonsense has to stop, we need to go back to carburetors/mechanical fuel injection and real switches like it was back in the 50's and to into the early 80's before the module integration started, where car manufacturers actually cared about their customers and wanted their cars to last and be owner fixable with minimum tools. Theres only one single reason and two words for all this canbus nonsense and module mumbojumbo, and those words are as follows: is DIYer Deterrant and greed!
In a few years we'll be lucky if the car makes it outta the dealership doors before its time for a 1000+ dollar bill at the shop for a failed ECU/BCM/other fault.

BCM likely wasn't bad. if u would have replaced the ECM i bet it would have worked.
ECM and BCM are on the LAN high speed serial bus network. If there's a short in the ECM that shorts the high & low, you will not be able access the BCM or if there's a bad LAN resistor it will throw a code and/or cause issues because the two 120ohm resistors are in the ECM and BCM on this car. Take 1 out and you have system noise.

Oh Yeah, newer the vehicle, you better have purchased that extended full coverage warranty and/or have a thick wallet! Because they're not getting any less expensive to have fixed! That being said, they're even more expensive to diagnose/fix. it ain't my problem that you have chosen to buy that 2019/2020 full size 3/4T pickup with all the amenities and 35 some modules!

It seems more likely to me that someone installed a new battery w terminals reversed. Jumper cables are so crappy these days.
The other thing I don't understand is why the alternator diodes didn't sacrifice themselves until failing shorted, followed by fusible link failure. Assuming silicon diodes in the alt, the voltage would be limited to about 2 volts negative.

Great job Eric! I swear, when my '06 Silverado HD packs it in, I'm ripping EVERYTHING out and gonna re-transform her like an 'ole early '70's truck with everything manual and everything mechanical. Rip the dash out, flat plate dash with standard gauges and back to a Holley carb driven truck.

If the VIN wasn't in your clipboard, and assuming it's a Windows 10 PC updated in the last year or so then Windows key + V should show your clipboard history as long as it's not disabled in settings->system->clipboard. Very useful feature.

What kind of test equipment do you recommend for a DIYer? I usually work on Asian and American cars. What products do you see have the best access for the programming of ECUs and Body control modules? Thanks for the great video.

I dont watch for DIY. I watch for the same reason I watch Ron Pratt. Its the ol' cliche of one man working while 5 other men stand around watching him work. We just wanna stand here and watch you do your thing, Eric!

Another one fixed after being fried, great job Eric, customer should watch this to see what we have to do for our living maybe then they will see we deserve more than we charge for other people causing problems

One tip for anyone encountering blown ECU's or suchlike, check the alternator output, the voltage regs can fail to in a way that makes them pump out too high a voltage and that can defo smoke an ecu or two.
