Buick Roadmaster: Turn Signal Switch Replacement

In a previous video I had a look at a Buick Roadmaster that had no high beams and no brake lights. It's now time to swap out the turn signal switch and see if all the brakes lights work again. Bobbywolf64: Those GM columns were used in everything back in the day. My 90 Jeep YJ has the same one, minus the column shifter and airbag. I have also had to go into it super deep to tighten the famous backed out screws to fix a floppy column. They are not super fun to work on, but it is doable by your average joe. Your wire fishing job was spot on. Doing it with mechanics wire is sucky, but also doable with enough patients. Great vid! Loving the older vehicles, even if you hate em, lol!

I bought all the tools to work on a 91 Firebird column and each time I got it back together the ignition switch felt like it was disconnected. Tore it down and got it working, reassembled and no switch. After about 30 times I finally got it and sold the car. Glad to know I'm not the only one frustrated by that simple snap ring that always catches in the second groove. This job is now classified as above my pay grade. Yea, I was screaming at the computer that you forgot the hazard button. LOL

OK, I had an 82 Firebird with the loose bolts down inside the steering column. I fixed it by wrapping duct tape around the outside of the tilt section and it worked great until one day I was making a left turn and the tape let go. Well at that point rod for the ignition switch shut off the engine as the column twisted. No power steering and no power brakes. Luckily I did not hit anything.

Eric, I may have considered the age and probability of further damage and simply installed a 1 wire weather pack, 2 piece connector to replace that fretted connector. It would have been a good repair and saved you and the customer time and money. And moved on to that potentially expensive SES lamp issue. Just an Idea.

I had an interment problem with my 2003 chevy sliverado. Light to service 4wheel drive would randomly show up. Later that year I had a whole mess of ground wires break off at the same time. After all the grounds where fixed, that issue went away. I had multiple mechanics look into but it never stored codes.

This has to end up as a Christmas Stocking stuffer SMA Classic Mr'O with Mrs'O saving the day under the dash with a pan shot of the back seat and wanting to buy the car because it was the car everyone man wanted back in the day. lots of room and a nice daily driver to the ice cream store.

Love seeing Mrs. O. You have such a wonderful family. It has been awhile that you should off your beautiful family. Great job on the repairs. I could never get enough in watching you do repairs. I always learn something new. =. You tubers should leave you and your shop alone. =)

I remember those well. I have pulled a lot of computer network cable in my life time. I just use what we call jet string. Has 1000 lbs breaking strength. Half hitch around the wire and a little tape around the black connector and pulled up through. Hey what ever works right.

God I remember doing a lot of these old Gm s back in the day most the time I had to do them out in the parking lot it was either freezing cold or smoking hot. Every time I open that drawer on my tool box with the lock plate depressor I just shake my head! What a cluster

Thanks for reminding me, I need to clean out my tool box. I need to put my old speciality tools in a smaller box. I don't need my lock plate depresser any more.
Or, my lifter puller, and the combo dwell & carb adjusting driver either!
