Years ago I did a full exhaust change from the Y-pipe back on my 2000 Buick LeSabre with the N/A 3. 8. Due to the gravel driveway being an issue for the stands, I ended up having to drive it up on some ramps after I had pulled the pipes. Naturally at 8pm I did it quietly, making sure to rev it only half a dozen times to enjoy that sweet splendor of an engine. I'm sure the neighbors enjoyed it as well. I like to share such wonders.

During a training on catalytic converters about 15 years ago the instructor stated that over 90% of the time converters fail due to an engine issue. Basically converters are murdered by engine issues.
Good call on the diagnosis. Also I never used a fancy scope to test back pressure. I would unscrew an O2 sensor and put a pressure gage in its place and test that way. I even learned new technology.

From the lack of overall maintenance on that van, I would say the reason for the multiple bottles of oil inside is how he does his regular oil changes.
Eric. How often do you change the oil?
Owner. Daily

I was having a low power issue with my Honda Element and the catalytic converter thieves helped ease out with my issues and stole it in the Walmart parking lot right at the front door. Bad thing for them is Walmart has good surveillance cameras and the cops caught them. Now they are sitting in jail.

I never thought of someone's back of the head look like a package of hot dogs. LOL I did work with a guy who's entire scalp which I am sure he cut it to make those grooves in it. I always asked myself why would someone do that. It would be a bloody mess cutting into the scalp.

i mean you could have done the test easier and just put your hand on the muffler on the back, but hey you're known for a full diagnostics guy, but for us guys with not much experience doing mechanics or diagnostics, you could have put that there somewhere.

Viewing from Canadian West Coast. I had 96 Jeep Cherokee with bad cat. and my repair shop claimedthat because we were in rural area and I seldom drive to the big city they could can open my cat. and remove the innards and weld it up again, which they did.

When you cleared most of the debris the core of the rear converter looked intact and probably could be cleaned with a vacuum and compressed air instead of replacing it. I think the debris must have come from one or both of the upstream converters.
