Ford F-350: No Start, No Communication Jeff: It s F-350 day! Rainman Ray had one in today. It s on it s way to the junkyard. Ray found 17 codes that would cost more than it s worth. It s a ferd, go figure. Vin mismatch, pcm not programmed? What turns the pcm relay on? A miracle. lol You and Ray came to the same conclusion. crush it. Brian has balls, or is a glutton for punishment.

I was Lead Mechanic in the Water & Sewer Utility in the town I lived in and one of my duties was to get vehicle/equipment bids each year for my boss. Ford was ALWAYS cheaper and it got to where Chevy and Chrysler dealers wouldn't even bid. The first year they wouldn't bid my boss and the Utility Board weren't happy; my boss told me I needed to find out why they wouldn't bid. I finally got a Fleet Sales person to tell me that Ford Motor Corp. subsidizes the local dealers bids to make them cheaper and uses it as an advertising cost. I finally got a Ford Fleet Sales person to confirm that and their reasoning was that fleet vehicles increases their exposure tremendously.
We did have some cars and light trucks from GM and Chrysler and I don't think we got a lot better service from the Ford products, if we did it was minimal. I will say that in the HD Truck category Ford was the best. But, I think most of the issues were generational rather than quality, although I think Ford recovered quality-wise faster after the Bail-Out.
My personal truck was a Toyota Tundra and I had almost no problems with it. I tried to get the Board to accept bids from Toyota, or other Metric manufacturers, on trucks and cars, but, they wouldn't, even though they were all either producing, or in the process of producing, in the U. S. I retired from that in 2004 so all these things might be different now, IDK, I have seen people having good results from GM and Chrysler.
Great job, as always, on the diagnostics.

I don't work on Fords a lot but when I do, I'm pissed off the whole time
I know what you mean. Few years back a friends Ford P/U was stolen, hotwired and ign. switch dicked with, needed replacement.
Problem was the ign switch lived at the bottom of the steering column, with a long drive shaft between the mech, key lock and the switch driven by right angle bevel gear top and bottom. Each one had about 6-8 possible positions, NO witness/alignment mark either end.
Took HOURS to find the right position for the gears each end before I got it. To top it off, the only wiring harness detail I could find was from a Motor's Manual (remember those) It had 12 years of different models/years diagrams ALL superimposed on top of the others. A magnifying glass is not a fun way to trace wires.
Best yet. He lived within 10 of the Mexican border, south of San Diego. I wired in an ign. kill switch to prevent further theft. 6 months later, truck stolen again. Asked owner if he was using the kill switch, answer was NO?
Arrgghh! Some peoples kids.

Some years back I bought what you describe as a town vehicle. Sure enough, someone had their fingers where they shouldn't have been and had pulled a pipe off a turbo pressure sensor. The big problem was that this sensor is not mentioned anywhere in service data, I had read pages of questions about the same fault with some people spending thousands when the dealer fired the parts cannon.
The actual sensor was on the bottom of the air box, completely out of sight. I found it by chance after I had to remove the air box for another minor job and had more pipes than I removed. Turning the box over I found the sensor. I knew immediately what it was, problem solved.

Thanks for what you do because it helps people such as myself who do most of their own mechanic work themselves. Anyway I m needing some help and wondering if you would give me your thoughts on a problem I have with a 2011 chevy equinox. It starts and runs great but occasionally when you start it it will idle for around 15 seconds and the when it idles down it slowly sputters out and stalls. I ve checked the exhaust and intake solenoids, cleaned the injectors, replaced the throttle body and still no fix. Also getting no money light so I was hoping you would give me your thoughts. Thanks and appreciate your time.

I have a 2003 Silverado Z with the big 5. 3, 236K miles. She's a rust bucket thanks to Michigan salt, but for the past 2 years I've bathed her in fluid film which is keeping her from crumbling like a saltine. I love this engine and wouldn't drive anything else. It's needed one water pump, two alternators, plugs and wires, and that's it. It does have an alignment issue and a soft brake peddle issue that shops here can't fix. I plan on making an appointment with you for your assessment and fix. Yes, it will be worth the drive!

Eric, you amaze me with your skill and knowledge! Every time, at the end of your videos, you say. if I can do it, you can do it I just think of all the other shops sending you stuff to figure out because they COULDN'T do it! I wish I was close to you so I could call you my go to mechanic! Keep up the great work! You are a legend in my mind!

My friend has a 2017 F-250. He is a local contractor and has rebuilt the 4 wheel drive trans and the engine. He loves Fords because he owned a Chevy years ago and replaced a number of cluthes. He found later it was a broken weld in the linkage that was the trouble. I think he really likes the Ford because it doesn't have a clutch.
