Ford Focus: Engine Light On P0014 BergTech: Had a 2011 HHR in my bay last week. Same deal except it did throw both P0013 (Exhaust solenoid circuit) and P0014 (Exhaust solenoid performance. Resistance should have been 8-12 ohms and a quick resistance check on the exhaust was 32 KOhms. No matter how many times I see something, always best to take the time to test. Always grateful for the videos. Many thanks.

Great scope work, I loved that split screen you set up on the scope. Nice work thinking in advance and putting an actual scope on the EX SOL so you could monitor as well during a single test drive. Using the INT SOL as an ohm reading as a specification was a good idea as it was the same temp as the suspected EXT SOL. I like how you always visual, as best as possible connector female terminals. Maybe see if your DVM meter has a hold function so you can concentrate on the leads touching the terminals of the component being ohm tested. Then when the meter goes beep it will freeze holding the Ohm reading. I know my DVM does that for volts not sure if Ohms will. I agree a diag code that is rationality not normality are difficult. Normality codes are OPENS in the source or ground wire. EASY! But rationality codes like you just diagnosed much harder. Great diagnostics. Thank you.

Another informative and useful video; following your diagnostics I have figured out a long standing issue. Your comment about command given and only a partial response rung a bell. That's why my wife is always mad with me. Commend given (from her) and partial response (from me. Hmmmm. what could be the fix?

Hey Mr. O! Would you say the small AES Wave Uscope that you sometimes use is good for most scope diags, at least for a rookie starting to scope wave patterns? I ve been wanting to start scoping to improve diagnosis accuracy, but not ready for the huge price tag on the more advanced DSOs.

This is why we appreciate Eric so much.
You don't take the word of the customer without a complete diagnosis.
He could have just thrown a computer at it and figured out the problem was still there.
But instead, he investigates it first and comes up with a correct diagnosis.

Nice Job instead of just putting in a big expensive computer least you're trying to find out exactly what it is before you leave I think that's great most mechanics wouldn't dothey would just do what the other shop said put a computer in it and be done with and that may not be

I m not enjoy this I know I don t have to watch your show. But I think you ve out grown us home basic guys. We are not able to buy these fancy products. So I just let you carry on and not bother checking your videos. Thanks for helping this do it yourself in the past.

I think it's time for a chassis dyno! For Eric's safety, and ours when we are riding shotgun. I am jealous of the split screen autel. Mine doesn't do that. so I ride around with a laptop/pico and the Autel. Doing it by myself is a real PITA.

Eric how did you know that the phaser wasn't sticking like on the 5. 4. s.. they are known to go bad too. I see that the solenoid ended up being out of range. Just wondering if that was in the back of your mind?
