Chevy/GMC Truck: Failed Heater Control Module Jose: Newest vehicle I own is 2004. Stick, simple OBD II fI. I ll keep it thanks. Also have a 2001, same FI. 5 spd stick. No heated seats, no cameras, no abs, no traction control (foot control, no stability control. Just runs when I want them to. I live in Texas, so no rust either!

Yesterday I replaced a heater resistor module on a '99 Silverado. It was a nightmare.
Despite a video showing how easy it was, I broke an underdash plastic cover support stanchion and took over ONE HOUR scarring up my now bleeding hands trying to remove JUST the oddly placed plastic spring clip pigtail plug behind the heater motor. Otherwise it was fast and a piece of cake. My hands are too big for tight places so sometimes it helps to just rip stuff out. Not in this case. Now the heater fan works at all speeds.

The Asian electronics are still the most reliable over the lifetime of their vehicles. The American stuff seems to be the worst. I got out of the biz for exactly the same reasons you talked about. I found it to be quite profitable, just difficult and stressful.

I get it. I just paid out 850 to have the heater core replaced in my 2012 Ram 1500. I m used to doing all my own work but at 63 I m unable to work on these newer vehicles. Glade to have mechanics like you that haven t given up like I have

Complexity is one reason I hang on to my 20 year old F150 and my 17 year old Dodge Magnum RT. Besides they appear to have lots of life left with 167k on the F150 and 120K on the Magnum.

I still drive a 1977 chevy K5 blazer and a 1990 toyota pickup. I will never drive a brand new vehicle due to the complexities. Great video Eric O, we appreciate all your content.

When I was a telecom tech, we had a clear code called Came clear while testing. I personally gave the customer a five mile or five minute guarantee, which ever comes first.

Call me an old fart, but damn! I drive a 66 chevy that has 1, yes 1 knob that controls the heat and fan, and totally no no! Computers. Just a money game

Car manufacturers have made things more difficult and super expensive. What happened to the good old days of heater being controlled by a cable?

Imagine somebody with no tech skills or diag tools just throwing in a blower motor or resistor and getting stumped when nothing works.
