Nice vid! I just did my G35 coupe rear brakes again. Everytime I do the rears one caliper is somehow seized. I ended up doing calipers, rotors and pads while they had to come off. Are there any aftermarket replacements I should be choosing above and beyond? Would I be better off using DOT4? Maybe I ll just regrease the sliders everytime I change to winter tires. On my fronts I found the bottom sliders on both sides seized but I m just gonna wait til the pads are gone. They re about 40-45%. Rotors are zinc plated, pads are ceramic (nothing exotic here. I used the green Permatex synthetic brake lube generously inside the piston area, inside and outside the boots, I wiped the new calipers and bracket with Blaster Corrosion stop and bled everything with Supertech DOT3.

Thanks to your visual inspection advice and theory of operation videos, I was able to track down an intermittant start issue with a Chevy Aveo. It would randomly crank but no start, and other times, crank and start. When I noticed that it was affected by slamming the hood sometimes as well as the entire dash cluster turning off and back on while driving, I suspected a ground. Sure enough, the body ground right behind the battery was rotted through the frame.
Relocated the ground and she's working great again. Thanks for all you do!

Another thing you might to suggest to the young lady is maybe to talk to the attorney general s office for the city there where the vehicle was bought the attorney general s office sometimes can shake trees and make things happen that normally doesn t happen in doors open they don t normally get open they seem to have a lot of pool and I don t like things like this so I know your city or state Attorney General s office is a place that she might want to contact.

I m hoping that you can make a spectacle of this dealership. I m SO SICK of rip off used car places. My girlfriend of a year now has been shopping for a vehicle for a few months now. She doesn t know what to look out for so I go and look with her. I bring a flashlight and my scan tool. While sales people are telling her how perfect the vehicle is, I m underneath taking pictures of everything that s broken or leaking or rotted out.

Asheville here, a dozen years ago the county discovered. liquid chloride.
At first it was in tanks on the back of 5 ton trucks
Now they have dedicated equipment
Point is cars and trucks never rusted
The sun would melt the paint away and there would be a little surface rust
Now, like that girls car. the body can be truly excellent, but ya better look under it because the frame might be rusted away

I do a lot of brake jobs here in the far upper Midwest. I no longer replace slider pin bushings or boots when they are bad. It is cheaper in the long run to just buy new calipers, rotors and pads. (For most GM products) I started getting the 3 year warranty rotors and have had no problem getting them replaced. I live in an area that is even worse for road salt, potholes, cold and snow than upstate New York.

Having watched you do dozens of brake jobs through the years, I always thought a rear brake job included parking brake lubrication and adjustment, as shown here. I certainly do it on all my vehicles. However with many working techs now recently posting videos, I see that they often skip the parking brake maintenance entirely. It seems kinda irresponsible, but I guess that's the state of the industry.

I agree with you on that parking break design. I mean it's essentially the small version of a drum brake without the wheel cylinder. How many decades of building those does GM have? And they screwed it up on this one? Personally I'm not fond of drum brakes as it is. There would be a cloud over my house right now of course words is I beat that freaking thing off of the car.

Gave some of them tools a good work out to get things free. Good to see the thread lock on the bolts, as I watch other Mechanics I guess they don't believe in lock tite on bolts where it counts the most! Yes, can't crank down the brake shoes to get the drum off due to the Genius of college educated engineers! Nice brake job! Have a cold beer!

Gave some of them tools a good work out to get things free.
