The Rusty Prius Repair
video description
Many loyal Prius owners gave me willingly their life story, without asking by the way, on how great the Prius is and why they love them.
I was commuting to work at the time and the 99 mpg was enticing but the killer of the deal was the bare bones interior and no electric adjustable drivers seat. With a bad back and the city designed suspension were a no-go for me.

Just a quick tip on torque wrenches. I do calibration on torque wrenches, dynamometers, and various measuring tools for large medical manufacturing companies. And lots of times people leave their torque wrenches halfway up the scale or all the way past zero which is a big no no. I've been given torque wrenches that were left at their highest torque and was just sitting in the toolbox for weeks without use. That also is bad as it puts a lot of stress on the spring. Overtime it falls out of calibration. Torque wrenches that are used by professionals should get calibrated once a year. Just my two cents. Just brought that up when I saw you use your digital torque wrench on the brakes. Awesome videos as always

I have never heard of twenty applications of the brakes to burnish in the pads, that is crazy! Even if Toyota or any other OEM vehicle manufacturer had a burnishing procedure, it would only apply to their pads or shoes, not aftermarket ones. For an pretty important component on a vehicle, I cant believe that it isn't compulsory to have a documented burnishing in procedure supplied with each set of brakes in the box or a link to the suppliers web site direct to the brake burnishing web page.

Sorry Eric but as a normal human being I refuse to watch a mechanic of your caliber work on the most environmentally unfriendly cars driven by self-righteous prats. me as a half ass mechanic would rather go bankrupt then put my hands, time, or knowledge on these door stops!
No disrespect to you Eric you are the best and I thoroughly injoy your videos but I am going to pass on this one.
You and the Eric gang have a great day.

Now that's a proper, salt belt, brake job! Using regular grease on the pins will seize up and swell the rubber damper rings. That silicone paste is the only thing to use on pins. (Tip of the day: It's NOT silicone bath tub caulk) And, it won't turn to crumbs unless you forget to clean out the wrong grease first because, they aren't chemically compatible. Another A+ show. King Eric!

Hi, Mr. O. I was happy to see that you are taking better care of your health in the workplace. You could write a manual for the PRNY explaining when mechanics must use safety equipment for the greater good. I should have worn my own ear protectors when watching this video. You could probably sell Fluid Film online i nthe PRNY as a side gig. Anyway, thanks for sharing! Stay healthy!

No heavy braking for 100 miles? WHAT? I had to do a brake job and then jump right on the 101 in typical bumper to bumper stop and go traffic for 20 miles. Down a 14% grade street to boot. The wheels didn't fall off. I must have done something wrong. The paint on the inside of the new rotors started almost on fire, they were smoking so bad. Didn't seem to hurt anything.

I just bought the actual dealer service manuals themselves on eBay for 40. And a missing owner's manual for 8. Don't expect to connect with such a deal until yours is 20+ years old though like mine is. They didn't help me find the oil pressure sensor though as that item is not detailed on any picture in the books. It is on You Tube, so that's an option as well.

I'll have to admit this was the first mechanical verbal porn video I've ever heard. Them brake parts going in and out and such made my wrenches antsy. Then the slide pins talking about breaking their rubbers! or was I imagining things? I guess I'd better go check on Mrs T and see if she's awake, I might require some help. LOL

Just a little reminder: Ask Mrs. O to cook more yummy dishes for us! We haven't seen her cooking in a while.
My uncle owns a shop in Missouri, and he recently had heart surgery. He only had time to eat fast food throughout all these years, because no one cooked or made him anything this whole time.

I have to admit. I've never heard of burnishing the brakes after a brake job. I just install them. and they work. Never had a problem. Although I have stopped having rotors cut. Half the time they warped them while cutting and I ended up doing them a second time. Now I just buy new ones.
