Great job Eric! You knew the fix before you drove it i can bet! Lol short story about gas caps. here in dustbowl AZ if you go to the emissions station they will replace your gas cap with one of their government supplied one 9 times outta 10, they keep your old one. I asked for mine back and they told me no they have to turn the old ones in. thats some crap! Just thought I'd share. thanks for all you do. love from AZ

i've seen burrs on filler necks from factory. i use scotch bright to clean dirt mostly in the south which clings to filler necks from static electric as well as the seal on the cap. spray with 3m wet gel or oil so the cap slips when hitting the neck like an oil filter to the block, gets just a little bit tighter, saved folks thousands with these two fixes. thanks for sharing cheers.

My 2002 Jeep has had an evap leak every year since I bought it in 2010 and I keep fixing them. Sometimes it's the gas cap that I just have to click a few extra times and sometimes it's a hose that, so far, have been easy to find without smoke. I just bought a new Mopar gas cap so I hope it's not that any more. The good thing is that I've never had a code that was not an evap leak.

The wifes Jeep just flashed on the dash check gas cap and of course the check engine light came on. I seen something that said put Vaseline on the o ring and it will help seal it so I tried it, so far the light has stayed off. It's probably a temporary fix but it tells me the cap is the problem.

That damn message, the door IS A JAR. You would think, after all of the years that have passed, the makers of these vehicles that displayed this silly message, would get together and fix this broken message. Afterall, a door is not a jar, it is a DOOR. Ridiculous!

You might see it in a couple years, I have a 2014 compass and had a small evap leak and it was the plastic flange on the fuel pump and transfer pump it was cracked and brittle and leak past the o ring around the fuel pump where it seals to the tank

You said you might be the only guy making a video of replacing the fuel cap. Can t think of a better guy to watch replacing a fuel cap. Very much enjoy you diagnostics and thought process in doing so. Hope for great new year for you and your family

did the mechanics union require the creation of evap systems in cars in order to create a steady stream of revenue? It does not seem to matter what brand of car they are always the first system to turn on the money light.

I don 't understand. You say it could just be the gas cap, but you don't even bother to check that before digging into the engine. If it is the cap, wouldn't that save a lot of time as well as cost to the customer?

Aftermarket gas caps are JUNK. Never buy an aftermarket one. Always go OE. There's a reason they hardly ever fail. Because they are good. Unless it's an aftermarket one, then it'll fail outta the box.

What year is that Jeep? If 07ish or newer, the PCM has a small leak verification test- if your Autel will support that function. Wil tell you the most likely point of failure without the Hoka smoka
