Eric -- After about 13 years of doing my own work on my own cars, using videos like yours to learn, and building up my tools, this very day I take on my first paid job to supplement my retirement. I'm doing the brakes and a/c compressor on a rust free Toyota here in the Pacific north west! I'm at the point where I'm using the Autel bidirectional computer to diagnose when appropriate, and I hope to pick up and learn to use a PICO scope relatively soon. I wanted to be a mechanic when I was in high school but my dad talked me out of it. Well here I am 40 years later. ..

Morning Mr. O,
I was wondering if you got the job to fix/replace the bad cam sensor gear/actuator. I would imagine that would be a repair series of several videos. One good thing about that job, it ain't the same old stuff. Again, super interesting video.
Hey, making a trip to the Northwoods in September. Love the fall weather. Nothing like the smell of firewood smoke in the air!
Later!

Hey Eric, that tool(with a red handle) you used on the spring, I think it's called a hold down remover. I didn't know that they came in different sizes. For many years when I did rear shoe brakes, I used 1 size for the hold down spring removal. Now if I choose to do the job myself I have to get another tool to do the job.

I had a Traverse and man did GM drop the proverbial ball with them things! Really nice when they work but I swear you need to change the oil every 150 miles or it ll cake or burn it and mulch the timing components all 7 chains, 6 phasers etc. garbage.

Had a brake job on a rust belt Honda CRV down here last week. Took three times as long to do as one of our southern cars. Gives a whole new appreciation for what you go through. I'd be in a bad mood about it too.

I'm in the UK. My Captiva has this exact issue. No air hammer sadlyI had to tap with a hammer and punch for a while with WD40 too untill it freed itself. 6 months later still a perfect hand brake. ( manual gearbox )

211k miles? Yeah. That is at least the 2nd transmission and might be the 3rd. I know a guy that quit at one dealer because they kept giving him the Traverse engine/transmission jobs.

So lucky I don't live in a rust belt. Bolts come off with ease, drums just pull off with your bare hands, no special tolls required to remove rusted on drums.

Brake clean is six bucks a can, 4 on sale if there's any left. It's just no fun to use any more. What is left in life now?

Whenever I bring my mechanic parts, I always give him the while you're in there parts too, exactly for situations like this.
