Seriously Mr. O! I would not buy a new vehicle unless I knew of a business like SMA in Gainesville, FL that actually. AT LEAST CARED. about fixing whatever problem my vehicle has. And, I've been through ringer TWICE with our local Ford service department in regards to their Neverending BS when a serious problem rears its ugly head! And if you have the illustrious bumper to bumper extended warranty? They just keep my trucks for weeks until the parts cannon is out of ammunition.
End of story? We DO have a great repair facility! Thank God for Advantage Automotive in Ocala, FL! Good job sir!

ah yes the old you just need a battery trick. we were at work taking a break and an older fella with a nice 2013 f150 asked if we could help. He had power but no crank. Brand new interstate battery. Tried jumping anyway. nothing. maybe a starter relay or something? we weren't going to start getting involved with the guy's truck so he called ins. and hour later a flat bed truck showed up. so we watched from the scaffold. yup, out comes the jumper cables. Nothing again. truck driver gets on the phone and they towed the truck out of there.
I figured it was a bad ground or relay probably. who knows. for a salt belt truck it was super clean though.

The newer body style GM full size trucks are unreliable garbage. I had a new 2022 regular cab Silverado 5. 3L 10 speed. Back and forth to the dealer for transmission issues. It would grind on up shifts at low speeds, slam through the gears on down shifts, the transmission developed a loud whine. The exterior paint was very thin and would chip/scratch so easy. The interior was installed sloppy with hairline cracks in the plastics. The frame wasn't even painted, just coated in a black wax that was rubbed off down to bare steel probably during assembly. Just 5k miles on it. I got rid of it and ran as far away from it as I could. Just sad.

Recently, Eric did a W. U. W. (What's up Wednesday) live streaming segment; the first he had done in a while. He stated in that live-streaming session that he had/has never had any training to do what he does. Can you imagine the kind of brain he has in his head? His power of recall is phenomenal. In an interview with a local newspaper some time ago, he also stated that he, barely made it through high school. I guess that school he went to didn't know what to do with someone who was bored with 2+2. I will bet those people at the stealership can watch this video and still not properly repair this vehicle. GREAT VIDEO!

The dealer technicians that are actually competent are already up to their elbows in alligators with people screaming about their vehicles doing this or doing that when they have recently purchased them, which leaves vehicles like this one to the new guys who are just out of school and are still trying to put together in their head. what is electricity? You re going to end up with people retiring and leaving the auto repair business, which means more work for guys like Eric, and less satisfaction from the dealer network environment.

I get your point that it should have some kind of cross reference code between that park/neutral start line being activated and the PRNDL. But if it doesn't talk to the PRNDL, if you simply pulled your gear into drive and then tried to start it-- that would trip your code. So maybe that's why they don't have it trip a code. It's strange for sure: they made it redudant- yet separate so that they don't talk to each other. Which completely kills the purpose of redundancy IMO-- and just gives it two ways to fail. lol. brilliant

Elite (for hire) mechanics are rare these days: South Main Auto, Rayman, Scotty Kilmer, the Car Nut, Car wizard, Car Ninja and their trusted employees that I can remember here in the states. These are the last resort for mechanics, dealerships, and people with almost imposible repairs. It is amazing the fact that they are so rare, think about it, they are about one in 40-50 million. I wonder if they all know each other or if they have some kind of award for best mechanic, or any kind of elite mechanics convention. Anyone know?

Just on the basis of good will I think the dealership should not only fix the problem but even reimburse the client for your bill, and any second tow, too. For a pro to miss that clue regarding how it started in neutral is bush league diagnostics. On the other hand I suppose it is possible the clue was not present at the dealership, it might have started fine in park when there. You never get the full story, and intermittent problems that are gone can be a nightmare.

To many dealers look for codes. No codes to tell them what to fix they give up. They don't know how to do diagnostic test. I find the more complex the crap they install the more problems. Just install a key that goes to the starter and be done. Why have the push button to begin with? If they put all the computer control in them, why not just build in the scan tool for it? If the dealer can't fix it under warranty I would just shift to neutral and move on.

This is a great example of how to troubleshoot, my son told me that all of the new techs that came into his dealership service department couldn't do anything but replace a part the computer told them to replace. If the computer didn't find it they were dead in the water. These young guys have no troubleshooting skills what so ever, they don't understand electrical theory at all and what are cars today, computers with tires.

After having been a service manager at a dealer (not GM) for a short time, I find the quality of mechanics are dismal. If you tell them to replace a camshaft, bada bing bada boom, it's done before you know it. They are great at disassembling and reassembling; really, VERY good. But ask one to diagnose even something simple, mechanical OR electrical, and you get the deer in the headlights look.

Not a super complicated diagnosis on this one The GM tech (who should know EVERYTHING about that truck) took the easy way out, probably to get rid of the customer. Yeah, it's the battery Eric, you're just too damn good You would think the owner of the truck would get it oil sprayed, considering how over priced they are. Thank you Eric for another great video. At least the lack of rationality check won't actively kill you. Those Boeing 737Maxs that were flying into the ground did it on the basis of one sensor failure with all the others giving no indication to confirm the fault. But on that one sensor (if you didn't buy the duplicate sensor upgrade) they would fight the pilots all the way into the ground. One AND statement would have saved a lot of lives.

I found this statement, if this is true I can see part of the problem no one wants to work for free. This may not apply to this case but may cause a mindset. In an effort to reduce warranty costs, many vehicle manufacturers have modified their labour guides in recent years so technicians do not receive any credit for their time spent diagnosing problems that are covered under

You may not be old enough to remember(I am) when mid 1960 s Ford s had to be started in a specific way.
1- Left wrist on about the 1 o clock position on the steering wheel.
2- Using the 3 middle fingers of the left hand, grasp the column shift lever and pull as hard as you can.
3- With the right hand, turn the key on the dashboard.
Oh the simpler days

Taking a vehicle to the dealer for diagnosis of an intermittent problem almost never solves it. They only have lube jockeys and detailing techs working there and 1 master mechanic who is focused on keeping the parking lot empty. They could care less whether they solved your problem or not. If they lose 1 customer and have 1 bad review they also could care less.

People think dealership technicians are specially trained. They re not. They re a bunch of kids who can t wait to vape their next vape and get the latest tatt on their face. Most people who are good at things are not at dealerships. I ve worked at four different manufacturers dealerships and it s the same disappointment at ever place. Now I run my own shop.
