Volvo XC60 2018 D5 vs D4 review

Volvo offers the XC60 with two diesel engines - a D4 and a D5. Both are 2. 0 litres, but one has 235hp and the other 190hp. But is it worth paying extra? Watch as Mat puts them to the test in a drag race and rolling race, compare costs and pit our D5 car-s fancier air suspension against the D4's steel springs

Excellent video - can we have more of these? Take your recommended engine/spec and compare with other engine/spec levels. You also pointed out that in this case the air suspension makes a big difference. Are there other options that make a difference in other cars e. g Mercedes COMAND online vs Carplay/Android Auto

Now it would be interesting to compare that D5 witn new B5. B5 is mild hybrid + KERS. Yep, Kinetic Energy Recovery System - it has carbon fibre flywheel in rear axle, when braking, instead this si spun up and it retains that momentum for a while for next start.

This is very interesting especially the diff in interior and the feeling y get. But I never see this comparision in high vs low spec Audi or Mercedes.
Because no one never buys a low spec Merc, and thats why they cost a furtion.

The turbo in that must be tiny anyway, what noticable lag are you going to get, youre partially on the throttle at 40 anyway so the turbo will be spinning a little. Nothing suprising here for me.

Please can Volvo bring back some 5 Cylinders. If not only as their top range engine. They need to keep. up with Mercedes and BMW etc who offer 6 Cylinder diesels, and the old five pots sound sooo good
reply

You can just get a XC60 D4 Inscription/R-Design with Air Suspection & Every other extra Plus Better Fuel Economy than the D5.
But at that price point is fuel economy really a deal breaker? :D

Do you buy a Volvo for performance, though? Surely all about comfort, safety and the gorgeous looks! Edit: so yeah, I agree with you Matt - spend the extra on luxury not performance: D

A D4 XC60 is going to be my next car. Been waiting for this video between D4 and D5 to see what the difference is and there really is nowt in it. thankyou for answering my question.

We make quite a lot of the interior trim at work, it feels weird to see the different things actually mounted in the car as opposed to manufacturing them on a daily basis lol

What's wrong with your microphone? It sounds terrible when you were talking during that rolling race, and I don't think it's the wind but rather the louder voice.
