This is the all-new Mercedes-AMG A35! With the Golf R and Audi S3 set firmly in its sights, the A35 is looking to ensure Mercedes sits atop of the hot hatch category while we wait for the unveiling of the new A45 in 2019. So does the A35 offer enough to take on the established competition of the Golf R and S3 while we wait for the new A45? Join Mat for his latest Top 10 review to find out!

AMG has diluted its name too much and made itself too attainable. The purist in me would prefer this car to be called an A300/350, and for AMG to build a separate brand name which represents its milder sports cars which are given the 45 and 35 designitions, yet differentiates iteslf from the main product line. I quite liked the Engineered by AMG branding they put on the previous A250, although there was hardly anything AMG about it (ironically. Obvious examples from competitors are Audi S and BMW M Performance. They're still highly desirable, yet their existence strengthens the -holy grail- status of their RS and M range. Names aside, this car is probably going to be a winner and aesthetically looks the best out of the competition. The conscious snob in me would feel a little embarassed driving a wannabe AMG, although road tests may prove us all wrong: this may turn out to be a class leader and truly deserving of the AMG badge.

Merc seem to just be putting AMG badges on anything now? The E63/C63, SLR-s are all proper AMG-s, not this hot hatch/super hatch thingy, yes I-m sure it-s a great car, but AMG should really be reserved for loud V8-s or at least REAALLYYY fast cars.
Not sure if I agree with the A45 being an AMG, when it-s fully kitted our with it-s spoilers and carbon bits it looks a bit mad, which is good for an AMG so I think I-d accept that, but that should be their entry level AMG car.
Now stop making me type AMG. AMGAMGAMG, doesn-t even sound like a thing anymore

I usually hate the exterior styling of Mercedes-Benz, but I have to say that this car is absolutely beautiful. I prefer this car over the others, hands down, no question. Too bad I'm an American, so I doubt I'll ever be able to drive this gorgeous machine. It's truly a rolling piece of art! Europeans make cars so much better than my kin. I'm envious of European gear heads. Damn, I wish I was born I'm Europe. Hahah. My dream is to eventually move to Europe. Perhaps then I'll get to finally drive real cars.

lefties are retards, they think Manufactures have money growing from trees and can take a big hit, complaining this should have 320hp. More power will mean longer hours Enginneering the engine, so in the end it will cost more for the Consumer. When new cars cost more Dealerships always sell less numbers of cars proven through history

All these cars have essentially FWD with the exception of the BMW. so you can spare the extra money for S/RS/AMG badge and just buy a regular model. It will remain mysterious to me how someone can buy a car like this? There is NOTHING sporty about it. A lot of horsepower alone does not make a car more sporty.

This is a huge improvement over the previous A class. I like that Mercedes have made a variant to rival the likes of the S3, 135i, Type R etc. More choice to the consumer not everyone has the means or what's an A45 as a daily driver! 300bhp is enough for most people on public roads.

Aerodynamics aside spoilers on cars do nothing for me, ruin the car's smooth lines. Look at the Audi R8, Mercedes AMG-GT and Lamborghini Huracan for example, they look far better without the spoilers, they are so out of place, look like an afterthought.

Wheels look lost, bonnet line is weird, as are the headlights, spoiler has been mentioned by others too. S3 with an uprated front arb and minor changes to wheel geometry to kill factory set understeer for me I think.
Does look nice inside though.

I'm sure the car is going to be amazing, but to be completely honest, it is not a good looking car on the outside for me, Audi s3 looks way better. This amg looks like some sort of super sized toy or RC supermarket toy haha, thats for me of course

Weren't everyone complaining about the screen being ugly and looked like it was slapped on last minute a couple of years ago with the a-classes?
Now they made the entire dash a long slapped on screen and it's the most beautiful interior ever?
