As far as the Lexus ES concerned, they mention mid 40 miles per gallon. Is that UK or US gallon? Because in the US, the car is rated about 44 mpg. And I can talk from experience, that's what I get from my similar Avalon (=Toyota version of the ES, except mine has the older hybrid system which supposedly is a tad less economical than the new hybrid system they came out with in Toyota's and Lexus. My fair estimation is that with conservative driving and a little -hybrid-knowledge- You can get better than -mid 40's, more like low 50's, which is excellent for such a large sedan. While the Germans keep coming with -mild hybrid-, the ES is the way to go if you want to drive an upscale sedan that is frugil on petrol. Add the build quality to the equation, and I really wouldn't know why you would take a German car over this Lexus.

Hybrid/self charging cars are not to stay & doomed to fail!
After all, why carry two power train every where, pay two maintenance, pay for two fuels, two headaches only to achieve one destination /objective!
Whereby, damaging our environment in the process. Total madness!
I guess, taxi drivers & those have to making journeys more than 300 miles a day, Hybrid cars may be the way. other than that please bear in mind fosil fuel engines ( diesel & petrol ) are eradicating fast, devaluing quick and you lose out as well.
Please respect environment and don't buy fossil fuel/Hybrid cars as it not only damaging our planet but our health too.
An outgoings technology in which car companies desperately trying to get ride off under different packaging!

Only justification for buying a Hybrid car is when daily usage exceeds 300 miles or more, other than that pure electric or EV is viable and wise obtion.
Imagine buying a car with 2 power train, tugging it along everywhere, 2 problems to sort, using 2 fuels everyday, 2 services, pay more for it, etc!
Also it's important to remember that, 30 mile pure electric they claim is useless in motorways/ heavy on gas pedal as it wouldn't give anything close to that figure.
It just doesn't make any sense at all.

If you want to keep it at least 10 years, Toyota is the only one historically super reliable since 22 years ago. Hyundai DualClutch will fail, it is the faith of any DualClutch transmission. Honda system has weak belt CVT transmission not fully gears CVT like Toyota and Lexus but the newer one has serial type powertrain, no belt anymore and looks better but not proven yet.

One has to ask, are so many design engineers of entertainment systems so out of touch? Or, is your level of technical intuition below that of their target users? My experience with Lexus has been its below my expectation for intuitive ease of use. BMW on the other hand usually to meet my expectations for user interfaces.

Hey carwow, love your reviews! Keep it up! BTW I wouldn't mind if you also showed the price in other currencies and had, by no perticular reason, a little carwow rebate for canadians, that would be. well. wow; ) Question: what's your opinion on current hybrids/PHEV/electric? What category has the best offer iyo?

You fail to Mention the Mondeo hybrid and hybrid estate. Driven one and it-s more refined than the Corolla and much more roomy for only a slight price premium. If you drive it well it-s efficient to. I got about 48mpg with motorway drives and 60+ around town.

Your instandly complaining about Lexus Infotainment System is boring at least. I like the new with touchpad and even my old with the controlstick is superpleasant to use with the handrest underneath. Their new Touchscreens are not my thing in such a car!

Come on 6 cars were just toyota company. What about honda accord hybrid, Mazda axela hybrid and Nissan fuga hybrid they are amazing cars too and affordable and great gas mileage as well. Those 3 cars could have easily replaced Yaris, corolla and prius.

This is either shoddy, lazy work, or just plain garbage. I get 45mpg AS A MINIMUM on my CR-V Hybrid. You should be sued by Honda for saying that you struggle to get 35 mpg. Does it take a lot of practice to be this inept?
