I picked a Golf over an A3 because of the interiour. The Audi has a high quality interiour but it looks damn boring. I did not like that. Gave me a grand pa feeling. Apart from that only the price was a thing for me and that was also a win for the Golf. So Golf it became.
To be honest, the GTI has a very nice interiour with leather seats and the red accents. The R does not have red accents which makes a lil more boring.

I-ve owned a golf R for 4 years and recently traded in to an S3. both dsg. in short I miss the golf R. much better than the S3. S3 is more expensive, does look nice but rubbish seats, poor standard spec and not as responsive as the golf R. s3 is good for cruising in a straight line and has good mid range but the golf R is a much better drivers car, better off the line, and you can feel the road better.

I got out of an an M2 into an S3 2018. Despite the lower power its useable especially in anything mildly most condition. A sinple re map would give me one to 370hp but I really don't see the point. Superb car & don't regret the 'downgrade' for a nanosecond. It still has a drinking habit but it's smiles per mile, not MPG -

The S3 looks and feels more premium, love the tactile feel of the interior. The Golf is a better driver-s machine though, no doubt. And quality wise it-s still good, no complaints really.
Neither car sounds exciting nor provide the thrills of driving an M140i. I-d go with that if you get a good deal.

At the s3 esp was off but at the golf r was on, you can see it at the start of the drag race, the vws esp was blinking, when the esp blinks the car use the brakes and close the throttle to manage the handling of the car, that was a reason to understand why the s3 takes the first place very fast

Curiously, although they're essentially the same chassis and running gear, my wife, with arthritic feet, found the S3 extremely painful to drive after just 5 minutes, but the Golf was absolutely fine, so although I prefer the S3 interior we had to go for the Golf

VW group is still making cars. and those who are screwed by them still buying their cars. Surely human species does not deserve to live in dignity and they need their European aristocrats to herd them properly so that they don't hurt each other.

The golf R has a much more race car feel and is a lot more planted than the s3 in corners. It would wreck an s3 for the handling and grip. And tbh I like the golf R interior better than the s3 interior. I-ve drove both vehicles and trust me.
