Mat, I think you need a little more insight torque and power ratings. Those values are only a rough image of the real potential of an engine. Torque doesn't even matter, because if the power is high enough, the gearing will generate a high torque at the wheels. So what really matters is the average instantaneous power that the engine delivers between two gears. So that's the average value of the power curve between the rpm at which the engine falls after an upshift (which will obviously slightly differ for each gear) and the one it will reach before the next upshift (which might need to be significantly before red line to get all the potential from the engine if the power is higher at the equivalent rpm in the next gear for the corresponding wheel speed. Peak values don't really say anything about the shape of the curve, some engines having some weird curves with some hollows and others having something more like a plateau (which is best as the average power will be close to peak.
So yeah, gearing is another obvious factor (the more gears, the higher the average power in each gear, and the acceleration at low speed (when drag is ineffective) will mostly depend on the (average delivered) power to weight ratio once traction is not a limiting factor anymore.

That Renault Megane 1. 8 engine looks and absolute I saw when you open the bonnet there's swarms of of pipework cables there is nothing tidy about it there's no covers or anything but then again you need to see a Civic 1. 0 engine it is absolutely ridiculous you are looking where the hell is the engine.
And I know this one working at Honda that warning if you do get a 1. 0 or have one there in mind when it comes to a cambelt change that the engine has to come out of the car to be done on a 1. 0 which is out of order if believe me I suggest you search on the internet or ask your local Honda dealership to confirm this

I always think a quarter mile race is a bit unfair to test fwd v 4wd v rwd. They all have different engines and boxes meaning regardless of launch and traction, there's also the number of gear changes and time spent in the power range to consider.
And the fact each car has a different weight

I would guess that since the renault and the golf have the same power with the rebault being lighter, it probably has a higher gear ratio which will result in a worse acceleration. Power and torque curves would also be needed to see at which rpm you have max hp/max torque

That megane is worth its weight in carbon fiber thanks to its manual gearbox, the Porsche is hideous and the golf is a vw, if easily take the Megane and not think twice about it.
