The Untold Truth about electric cars: They are expensive as hell. Charging them cost you more than gasoline. Many charging stations don't work properly. You have to replace the batteries every 5 years or so. New batteries cost from $6, 500-$10, 000. It costs $2, 500-$4500 to have them replaced. You will pay a large disposal fee. The batteries will then be disposed of many large landfills, where they will leak several different chemicals into these landfills. Plan on spending this same amount EVERY 5 or so YEARS! AND China will thank you for your business as NEARLY ALL PARTS INCLUDING THE BATTERIES WILL BE MADE IN CHINA! Buy American? Nah. destroy American land so China can get rich and the Biden Family Crime Syndicate will get richer. Meanwhile, EVERY OTHER COUNTRY ON THE PLANET WILL CONTINUE TO USE FOSSIL FUELS! It is not enough to truly despise these idiotic go-carts that are designed for people who will never work or earn money to live. These are made for Leftist folk who spend their lives stealing every penny they can from the Government. Electric cars totally contaminate the ecology in South America where the acid comes from, turning their skies into -GREENAGE WASTE- & filth. These joke vehicles cause millions of tons of waste aviation fuel dumped into the stratosphere, because most of the various parts come from a dozen different nations & assembled in some state where these wasteful clunkers continue to destroy the climate with their caustic batteries. The dumbest invention ever made by mankind.

Our typical distance to a holiday destination is around 150 to 250 miles. I like my holiday trips to be stress-free, and having the nagging fear of not being able to find a (working) charger would drive me spare. None of these cars would do it without a charging stop. To get a decent range we'd have to buy one of the bigger 'crossover' type cars, which we don't have room for. Then you have the added worry of not having the right app, so you have to mess about opening a new account before you can continue your journey. The whole thing is a non-starter for me. I can see people buying a small electric runaround for local use and a petrol car for long trips, and that isn't exactly eco-friendly is it?

Well I wouldn't give too much into range idea as electric cars are ment for city driving not interstate travel like you did.
I think in start and stop traffic you'd get more bang out of most of them and eco mode would do even better.
My sons toyota hybrid got 3 times the milage as our scion tc got, and going down a mountain range it charge rolling.
But the 6 speed scion tc coasted at 70 mph and up to 90 at one point.
Going down steep grades you should keep your feet off the brakes you dont want to overheat them or you can find you dont have any.

NRFPT (Not ready for prime time) is the state of electric cardom in the world today. Like where is all this electricity going to come from once they -replace- the gas car? Ya that's just it - they don't know either! And you need a battery R & R for your electric mobile? Well good luck there too as those costs will be and ARE cost prohibitive as we recently learned on the owner of a Tesla who was quoted over $22000 for a battery exchange. Instead he JUNKED THE CAR! Anyway NO THANKS! I'll stick to the gas and diesel versions instead.

I've just bought a seat mii electric (same car as up) and I do about 2000 miles per week. I have a level 2 charger at home and do about 120 miles to a full charge. I travel quite a lot for work but with appointments 50-60 miles from home I can manage to return home from my first morning appointment and charge back up in about 4 hours during the middle of the day when I'm at home. I also benefit from a free 22kw charger at a supermarket nearby if I need extra range quickly.

For me, range anxiety is not an issue. What would be a concern would be turning up at a charging point & finding it not working.
I stopped at a motorway service area in southern England recently & noticed that out of 12 charging points provided, five were not working & when I returned two days later the same five were still out of order. This is an issue that the industry is going to have to tackle if EVs are going to become mainstream.

i have a wonderful solution. 1991 peugeot 106 with a 1. 1 engine. you get 200miles on 10 liters, can -charged- every few miles, anywhere in the world, within 5 minutes, its easy to fix, can be fixed with basic tools even by a child, and its Eko friendly! it can be passed on to your great grandchildren because it will be still ruining in a 100 years. so there is no need of using up resources to build a new one every 5 years: D

The real winner of this test is the VW e-up. Considerable cheaper and less powerful than the other cars and it was second in the real vs claimed range rank. Quite disappointed with the fact that the Peugeot was the worse on that point, actually doing less range than the Vauxhall, that is really the same car underneath the skin and it even claims less range. The MINI actually performed really well, wasn't expecting that
