VW Golf GTI 2021 review - is the MK8 the best yet?

The all-new Golf GTI is HERE! Volkswagen-s mid-level sporty edition of the Mk8 Golf rolls up with all the classic hot hatch styling cues you-d expect, from the classic red striping across the bonnet (and throughout the cabin) along with a more aggressive, honeycomb-style grille. As for performance, well it-s certainly not too bad, as you-ll find a 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that will deliver 245hp and 370Nm. Sure, so it all sounds pretty good! The question is, does it really offer enough to sway you away from the competition? And more importantly, with the new Golf R already announced and just around the corner, are you better off just waiting for the GTI-s big brother?

Bought new Gti in november, so far no issues. Touch sensitive controls work seamlessly, you need to figure it out at first, everything works perfect. I had 7. 5 GTD, mark 8 gti is better in every way. Sound isolation is at higher level, car has more confidence at bends, with no speed limiter it goes 268kph. Fuel consumption avg 10L+- per 100km. U need to fill it with 100 oct fuel to get most of it performance vise. All in all, you need to drive the car for a few months to have full experience how everything works, one experience is on media, other in real life. I ordered car without seeing it in person, so i didnt expect such a big step up from 2018 gtd seeing all those reviewers talking how bad multimedia stuff was, what i realised was that they dont know how to use this commands, which are really intuitive, attention to detail is on another level.

What complete cobblers people are saying about the Mk 8, I've had a 7. 5 and a 5 and immediately thought the GTD 8 looked fantastic particularly in metallic black, so I bloody bought one: ) and love it. The combo of Google assistant and Apple music on an android works well for me too, I can ask for the album, no button fiddling and most of the buttons you need like volume and track are also on the steering wheel, very pleased it goes like the clappers particularly mid range and I regularly in real life at normal legal speeds on mixed road type runs get 60+ per imperial gallon. Here endeth the lesson; )

Volkswagen has paid more than $1 billion (and counting) in fines after their diesel scandal.
To recover from that you can:
- A) Increase your sales.
- B) Decrease your costs.
The single biggest cost for most businesses is wages. Volkswagen has dismissed between 20, 000 and 30, 000 of its employees.
The second biggest cost for car manufacturers is Research & Development.
If you think all this data leads to making a better car, you should consider buying this Golf.

Just recently taken delivery of GTi, so far so good. More fun to drive than my previous Mark 7 Golf R ( I wasn-t prepared to pay near 40k for the new R.
The display and ambient lighting changes depending on driving mode therefore not sure if the car Mat drove had a glitch. As for the touch sensitive -buttons-. jury is kinda out, try before you buy would be my motto. That said I have no regrets in my purchase.

Man alive, I can't wait to get these in the USA. I'm hoping there will be a bit of a crossover in sales, between the mk7. 5 and the mk8, so I can test drive both. I've never owned a VW, but I've had tons of Subies, a few Hondas, and even a Focus ST. I'm excited to test drive one of these and see if it fits my needs. An R would be amazing, but I'll have to wait and see what those numbers look like.

Had it 4 months. Worse car ever owned. Constant issues with it and been in vw over 5 times for software updates and still today same problems. Today radio won-t play and phone won-t connect to apple play. Gutted I jumped into and not the 7. 5 tcr. Currently trying to get out of it as it needs more updates than my Xbox I wanted a car not another computer -

I think Mk8 interior is amazing, if you own the car you know how easy to customise, not sure why he saying everything is red and you can not change dial colours, yes you can change dial colour and choose any of 36 colours.
Also you can customise the esp with one touch my make a shortcut, the amount of different features this car has its unbelievable

Na na, mechanically good though it may be it doesn-t do it for me. I loved my mark 1 gti and as any locals round my area will know it was always a hoot to mullah it along the slug road, ( Banchory to Stonehaven road either way and stop for a brew and a laugh at the old cafe, sadly closed yonks ago. The cafe not the road

Piano black everywhere. Looks like poo on this brand new car, 5 years from now? All the tech will be outdated, and all that shiny stuff will be dull and scratched. They gave it the budget treatment as well, prop rod for hood instead of struts, etc.
MK8 designers. you get a F for this assignment.

LMAO it sounds like a 1. 2 TSI! Also the interior is just horrible. I mean VW was boring before but the - I don't even know what to call it - -glove box to the windshield- on the passenger side is just bad. Why not put an air inlet in the middle of it, to brake up the space or something.
