With the Land Rover Pretender, the have handed over the 'real off roader' mantle to the likes of the Jeep Wrangler, Bronco, L/Cruiser and even the Jimny. This thing, with all of it's complex electronic bollocks WILL be a curse out in the field, and in 10 years time I would imagine the amount of electrical gremlins, software issues, not to mention a myriad of other mechanical problems will render it next to useless. PLUS the original Defender just looks 10x cooler. These things look like generic Chelsea tractors.

Look at how high the rear passengers knees are. That would be comfy for about 5 minutes. And the fact the seats don-t fold flat is a joke. If it was a Kia you-d say -these are compromises due to packaging and cost-, but look at price of the thing! Add it the fact looks like a Kia Soul and this holds zero appeal to me. Full fat Range Rover vogue or nothing from the current JLR line up for me.

That thing reminds me of a pot bellied pig. The rear seat cushion is too low (even for a shorty like Matt, and storage space is totally useless. Not even enough space for the basics from Costco. Its as if Land Rover totally ignored conventional car designed and went off to a land far, far, away. Also, steel wheels? What year is this?

To my mind Matt is one of the best car reviewers today. No one comes close! He is definitely the only one who could bring Top Gear back to life! At 60 he-ll be primed to put the Grand Tour on steroids and then he can end his life as a true car journalist talking to sheep on his own farming programme!

The original Defender did not have aluminium boards on the bonnet for people to stand on. These were aftermarket add-ons, so your comparison isn't really fair. I agree though, that the new Defender's plastic panels are a bit pointless.

This car is awful- a shame that they called it DEFENDER -
The real name should be -Discovery that we want you think is a Defender-
I would NOT get one if you put a pistol to my head - rather get myself a GRENADIER!

One of the things it has I which more modern cars have: both a usb and a usb C socket. So nice to have, especially when you frequently drive different cars and then find out you-ve got the wrong cable with you

For me. Better looks than the 110. I like it, but at 45 grand minimum it's not great value. Especially given land rovers unenviable reputation for build quality and general dependability.

Nice to get the kids from school. Stay close to a mechanic and you will be fine. Never ever would anyone sane drive this thing into the bush or anywhere remote without having a Toyota nearby.

Over 90 percent of these Defenders will never touch anything but a paved road. They'll be bought up by by privileged millennial DBs who feel the need to buy a personality.
