Ford Mustang Mach 1 v Porsche Cayman GT4 v 718: DRAG RACE

It-s time for an America v Germany drag race! We-ve got our hands on two Porsches - the Cayman GT4 and the entry-level 718. Alongside them, we-ve got the Ford Mustang Mach 1. Now you may think it-s a bit of an odd line-up, but when you check out the stats, you-ll see there-s a method in our madness! Let-s start with the GT4. It-s powered by a 4-litre flat-six that can put down 420hp & 420Nm of torque. It-s RWD only and it-s also equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox. In terms of weight, it tips the scales at 1420kg. Alongside it, we have the 718. Now it-s the entry-level, so it-s only powered by a 2-litre flat-four turbocharged engine that puts down 300hp & 380Nm. It-s also RWD, however, it-s the lightest car here, at 1365kg. But that's not all - it's also the only automatic in the line-up! Then finally we have the Mustang. It-s got a HUGE engine - a 5-litre naturally-aspirated V8, no less! It also puts down the most power, with 460hp & 529Nn. However, it-s also the heaviest, weighing in at 1807kg, and just like the GT4, it's a manual. So what do you think - is the Mustang out of the running given the weight difference? And will the manual 718 take down the GT4?

I'd still take the mustang -. Just me though. I keep reading were people are talking about the weight and stating it can't handle. It has the suspension components from the GT350, magnetic dampeners-. A lot of you people are just bias kids or child like adults. There's a reason why it's a manual. The A10 Mach1 would have put up a much better fight and we all know how you Europeans hate having all of your prized vehicles engineering given a run for it's money by simplistic overweight vehicles. So these reviews constantly pick the most mismatched set ups they can find. - I get you need content but, c'mon man.

I'm assuming that Mach 1 has a 3. 73 rear end, and that very well may be the problem. Up until 2011, it was the dif to have, but once the 5. 0 came back, it wasn't. I got a 2011, with the 3. 31 (I believe, and my buddy got a 2012, with the 3. 73 (and 10k in weight reduction and suspension, both 6 speed manuals, and he couldn't keep up with me. 1st was almost useless for him, not to mention I got an extra 15-20mph just in 3rd (topped out at 101 ish in 3rd) compared to him. The 3. 73 seemed to waste too much time shifting, basically just setting itself back a gear and not making up for it.

I saw a Cayman GT4 while walking downtown yesterday. A rare warm chinook day for my Canadian self before we return to -20 in a week, and it was just beautiful. Covered in mud and silt, chilling on a street corner next to a convenience store. The owner was a man who looked to be in his late 30's. He strolled out of the store as I was walking up, coffee and box of Pop Tarts in hand. -Morning sir. - I said involuntarily with a slight nod. -Mornin' son. - and a crowd beating smile.
He gave me a nice rev when he pulled out of the intersection.

I believe when porsche gives its horsepower numbers, it's based off the power it makes to the wheels. Unlike most cars out there which they base their ratings by crank horsepower which looses almost 20% to the wheels. This mustang is making about 390 to 400 hp to the wheels. If a porsche 911 turbo s makes 650 to the wheels then that would translate to about 770 crank horsepower.

I can't believe how slow that Mustang is. Sure it's heavier, but that's 160HPs more than the standard Cayman. It's like Ford are going with power to the crank figures and Porsche are giving power to the wheels. If this is the case, then it all makes sense, otherwise it must mean that the Mustang must be incredibly long geared. For like 350km/h+ top speed.

Traded my 981 for a 718 T (so base engine but tons of chassis and suspension upgrades) and the thing flies, after driving a base Cayman before my T I knew I didn't need an S on the road and frankly on the track the only thing an S would have got me over the T (again, tons of chassis and suspension upgrades) would be a few 0. 3 secs on the straights.

It feels like there is intentional bias against the ford in this -comparison-. I want to see a fair comparison between these cars. Is it possible to get them all in manual or all in automatic? We all know that manual transmission cars are geared much taller than autos to meet emissions testing BS

Auto 718 does 0-60 in 4. 9 seconds
Auto Mach 1- 4. 1
Manual Mach 1- 4. 6
Google is your friend.
This was done to take a shot at the mustang yet again. Carwow people can't drive unless it's an automatic with launch control and even then they could still - it up.

An almost fourteen second 1/4 mile from the mustang is an indicator that something was up with it. Not tryna throw shade but that car has the potential to run neck and neck with the other two. Could-ve been driver. Could-ve been surface but Fr this video did the mustang dirty

Surprising outcome. Especially with the Mach 1 in place. I-ve been looking at the cayman because the new styling looks honestly better than the 911 at 1/2 price just to know that I could whoop the barrage American muscle car is plenty good for me. Until you see a HELL CAT
