New Lexus RZ - a real Tesla bester?

This is the all-new Lexus RZ! It s the first Lexus designed to be purely electric, even if it does borrow lots of parts from Toyota along with a few ideas from Tesla! So let s take a closer look There ll be no mistaking the RZ for a different Lexus! There s no grille upfront (strange for a Lexus, we know, while the rest of the car is covered in sharp creases to really help it stand out. It s got some fins at the back of the roof, and we think the two-tone paint job is pretty slick. Step inside, and you re greeted by a 14 touch screen infotainment system. But that s not what you ll notice straight away - that will be the yoke steering wheel! That s right, Lexus has clearly borrowed some ideas from Tesla with this one, although the new electric steer by wire system should make the RZ s yoke much easier to use than Tesla s! When it comes to power, the RZ is equipped with two electric motors as standard, which will provide around 313hp. Lexus also claims the RZ should hit 60mph in 5. 6 seconds - not bad for a small SUV! We re expecting the RZ to cost from around 50, 000, but will it be worth it? Mat s taking a look and sharing everything you need to know!

Looks aren't everything.
If the
- range
- acceleration
- reliability
- ease of charging
- Infotainment UX
are any good then it'll be a real Tesla competitor.
While I prefer the looks of this I'm not cancelling my Model Y reservation because I'm pretty sure they'll fall short of Tesla.
Ironically, I work for Toyota: D
I think Toyota must be kicking themselves for having stopped their partnership with Tesla years ago.
Surprise surprise, these aren't Hydrogen cars yet! lol Toyota
Anyway, let's see how much they end up really costing when they hit the roads in the UK, after being marked up by dealerships too. I bet you it won't be as cheap.
Let's see where they find the batteries for reaching the production levels too. lol

I don't understand how hard can it be to understand the importance of high refresh rate and responsive UIs in car infotainment? Laxus sucked at car infotainment forever, probably because they target old geezers and they can't even see the screens let alone operating them. But recently even Volkswagen epicly failed their latest car infotainment infotainment system. Stop putting into cars crappy choppy and laggy infotainment stuff you absolute animals. Hire UX designers that know how to do software that feels right. I mean clearly not enough people got the memo yet. How hard can it be to get this simple idea into their heads? And how expensive can it be to achieve? I don't get it. Smartphones have been around a while. are these execs blind?

Its a Google based system. Its all the same commands but you say Lexus instead of Google. They claim to have worked with Google but it's all Google. Lexus in the us is so full of crapola. Don't think you're dealing with a Japanese company here. Its all run by us people with the same stretching the truth BS as BS US sales gimmicks and half-truths.

Seems to be spot on but that range isn t great. I am still waiting for the progress in battery technology that doesn t compromise high performance EVs. Let us hope that it is within the next few years.

Very interesting. This'll be a good one to drive. One major thing that'll make this one so much better than the Tesla is that the Lexus will be far more reliable

Lexus now starting to get rid of physical interior buttons now. That s a real shame. Thought they d persevere as opposed to what other manufacturers are doing.

I don't know when this big turn around in car industry started but all I know is that cars are jumping into their next generation very quickly

you say annoying physical controls like a touch screen is any better. Touch screens in cars are absolutely pointless and inoperable.

I mean, it's not ugly, but I have a hard time with Toyota/Lexus just throwing loads of angles at a car and calling it a design.

Until now, there was no electric car worth 2 cents, Lexus is about to show the rest of these fellows how a car should be done.
