Well in this review, Mat s going to put these two EVs through their paces, testing everything from their exterior & interior design through to their real-world range and just what they re like to drive! When it comes to performance, the Kia is easily the more powerful car. The bZ4X s single and dual motor editions can produce 204hp and 217hp respectively. In comparison, the single motor EV6 puts down 218hp, while the dual motor produces 325hp! The Kia also has a slightly bigger battery pack, 73kWh compared to the Toyota s 71kWh. As a result, the Kia also has a slightly larger claimed range - 325 miles compared to the Toyota's 317 miles. It's also worth noting the larger range comes with the single motor editions on both cars!

Surprised based on the size and height that the EV6 has the bigger trunk space.
These Koreans aren't playing games yo. The EV6 went on sale 2 years before this Toyota did and they're still better at damn near everything lol. I could be biased. I do own one. But this wasn't out to cross shop when I got my EV6 and really none of the EVs that've come out since are making me jealous lol. They don't look as cool and they don't charge as fast, for the money.

I cant believe given all the excitement of battery power and some good car designs (EV6 / Ioniq 5) that Toyota have built another generic, bland box for the road. Where the hell are the design thinkers! . EV6 is a way more emotive design. Its telling us that Kia is going somewhere, unlike Toyota who have indicated that theyre simply stuck where theyve been for the last 30yrs with their uninspiring family car designs. Such a missed opportunity.

The bZ4X looks ok, but i really dislike the big solid plastic ironing board instead of a 'grill. Cool headlights, and the colour is real nice on it. Nice enough interior but also a tad average.
The EV6 (together with the ionic5 )is just so much cooler looking both outside and inside.

There's no comparison, the EV6 is clearly superior in every aspect except for the 2nd row slightly better space. Though in Toyota's defense the EV6 is better than pretty much any other EV out there on their price range (note, the Model Y is not in this price range)

I was sure you will go for the KIA. I would go for the Toyota. Prefer the way it looks and is more comfortable ergonomical and with a good awd system. The restricted view at the back is also a downside of the KIa. Although for driving fun I think the KIA is better.

I have no axe to grind because I don t want an SUV.
But the KIA is better than the Toyota in almost every department. The two worst things are the lack of one pedal driving and it s ridiculous 6. 6kw onboard AC charger. I really wouldn t drive it if it was free.

Can you show 2 or 3 suitcases in the boot as many of these swoopy coupe backs cut off the space needed to store rectangular luggage and they won't close. If you put in middle reduces then to one or two only. Cool but not funny on morning of the airport or holiday run

Toyota is embaressing themselves. Kia and Hyundai have stolen their thunder for a couple years now. Toyota has a niche gem from time to time (like the Yaris GR, but even there they are not alone (The i20N is a good looking and capable micro-hothatch.

The electrification of cars may see the Korean car companies leap ahead because their tech companies like Samsung already have the technology for batteries, fast charging, operating systems and such. There is bound to be plenty of cross pollination.

I was seriously expecting something extraordinary from a 'Toyota' As they made us wait for as such a Long time. And now they're losing with a Kia; a brand people used to hate even just 10/12 years ago. It shows how far the competition has gone.

I actually love the black plastic cladding of the Toyota, it prevents scratches and dings from idiots opening the door in the car park and it s way more comfier in the back against that awful EV6 rear seat, your knees will be up to your chin!
reply

I agree with you 100 percent, the Kia is a really beautiful car and it looks like someone put some serious thought into its design.
I don't like the steering wheel with the instrument panel the most on Toyota, it's really disgusting.

reply

Toyota is a second hand bargain. They guarantee at least 80 percent battery after 10 years. You could wait for the first update (they will defo get rid of the plastic cladding and increase battery capacity) it's the Kia for me

Another reviewer that forgot to mention about the road clearance. The bZ4X is a proper crossover and can actually take you camping, whereas the EV6 is just a hatchback. Hence, they are literally aimed at completely different buyers!
