This is the all-new MG4! Mat s got his hands on this family-friendly EV, and he s about to see if it can compete with class leaders such as the Volkswagen ID. 3 and Cupra Born. For starters, it looks great from the outside! Top-of-the-range models get a smart light bar around the back and a cool roof spoiler. What s more, they also come with a black roof and blacked-out rear windows. There s also a super cool front splitter up top, along with some smart daytime running lights. One thing s for sure, this car looks much more expensive than it actually is! The good news is, the good looks continue on the inside. There are two large separate infotainment and dial screens, and a smart two-spoke steering wheel. You ll also find good-quality materials throughout the majority of the cabin. The infotainment system is ok, but it does also come with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay as standard. There are two choices of batteries, with the range-topper being 61kWh. This then comes with a range of up to 281 miles, along with a 203hp motor. This car, and the entry-level, are both rear-wheel drive.

1100 miles on my MG4 so far. Can t argue with much of Mat s review.
Rapid charging is like the 0-60, faster than MG claim. I got from 22-80% on Ionity in 23 mins in my LR! Topped out at 142kW for quite a time.
Some software issues, no scheduled heating, remote instant heating not working whilst plugged in unless charging. Settings defaulting when car switched off, not remembering how you want to drive. Safety systems kicking in too eagerly.
Does ride and handle lovely though and is all day comfortable.

I had a 21 plate mg3 coutesy car and although there were lots of nice touches like a nice screen, nice styling and a nice steering wheel, engine was very coarse and the real world mpg was in the 20s, glad they've got their act together for the electric market. The mg3 also appeared to have all the trim options in one car brushed patterned aluminium, piano gloss black AND carbon

Got it wrong about the phone charging cable. The rubber mat lifts out and there is a slit from each hole to the edge, allowing you to slide the cable into the hole. Under the mat is a larger hole that the connector will pass through. That way, when you replace the mat, you can still slide the cable to adjust length, but the connector cant drop through.

You should really mention the actual load capacity when testing electric cars. By that I mean the weight it can carry and not just liters of space.
A lot of them have so low capacity that carrying three adults in the rear very likely will be illegal because of weight limitations. The Tesla Model 3 is one of the cars this applies to.

I really hope they make an updated version of the old mg roadsters with this sort of electric architecture. There's no electric roadsters I don't think, especially nothing affordable. Imagine this battery and motor with an MGB style body on top, would be a game changer

I've had an MG ZS EV for a year now and my experience is mixed. Build quality is really good for the pricing and the amount of features you get even in the smallest version is insane. What bothers me is the software, it really needs a lot of work done.

If Poundland made a car. I was one of the first to get a Daewoo Espero in 1995 and it was brilliant but MG just doesn t excite me at all. The 7 year warranty is so restrictive as things come and go by the year unlike Kia that is 5 years

matt during the 5 annoying things segment reminds of those cringy tv shopping network segmants where brands try too hard to demonstrate why the generic or their competition brands are more inferior and poorly designed.

Ok, but the Design is creepy. no matter what the price is, the car doesnt look good. i would not buy it. there is more than just driving an electric car for cheap money. and its Chinese. another reason for me, not to buy it.
reply

It s cheap for a reason and that reason is: the cost of labour in China VS the cost of labour in Europe
We cannot complain about loss of jobs and industries if we keep encouraging everything to be made in China: /

What a review Mat! Clearly MG has stepped their game up, but the fact that they haven't stepped the price up too is what will definitely make this a popular choice. Looking forward to seeing this one on the roads

It doesn't taste better, I've eaten from Aldi for the last twenty years. When you put Aldi and Iceland's products back to back. The taste and quality difference is immeasurable.
As for the MG, it's okay.

In my country, Indonesia, the goverment is want to replace fuel-powered vehicles to electric, but the price is still expensive, There is a cheap EV's but it's deemed to small, and overpriced for it's size.
