-Eco friendly. - Yes. apart from the bit where the batteries are built, and all the materials to make said batteries are mined out of the ground, and then in 7 years or so when the battery that can't be recycled has to be replaced with another battery that's built. Not to mention how the electricity to recharge that thing is produced in the first place.
Simple truth is, the national grid is at capacity every winter. We don't have the electric to support electric cars. And if you removed all the ICE cars tomorrow and just had electric, the emissions that were from the ICE cars would be made by the power stations instead, but that's moot anyway because, we don't have enough electric!

I think the downside to EV in off road world is the battery, it's heavy sensitive to temperature and dangerously flammable. I think you get 5 years short distance off roading so good for commute as it's counterpart city cars. You can't overland or exhibit in rural areas like traditional vehicle which are lighter on the tires can carry extra tanks of petrol which fills less than a minute and on your way heck you can fill another mate tank if needed so and tow him away without worrying of range. I don't see much off roading practicality with current battery technology.

ABOMINATION > yeah try taking it to the far north and finding a charging station.
- a land rovers best working range in 3-5 mph. in 1st low - My old series workshop manual
Dont change a great thing. > fun fact> over 85% of all landrovers ever made, are still on the road. worldwide. > the best of any car maker.

I have no doubt that electric is the future. But if you crunch a petrol/diesel in a river, yes it'll be an environmental disaster, but do the same to a lithium car. You get kaboom.
Edit: just the chemistry education I received speaking. I know that most buyers will never take their cars off-road. But still.

Wicked cool but massively unattainable. I need a rugged car that can get me to and from work every day in tricky conditions, and so far it's a used Jimny or Grand Vitara that fits the bill. Even the new Jimny is too expensive, nobody that could really use one of these cars can afford them.

They could do tesla-motor powered winch.
And it would be interesting to see how could it handle rocking car backwards and forwards whn really stuck and how long does battery lasts in this situation.
