Have you ever wondered how three of the most popular family SUVs can perform off-road? Well, we have, so we made this video! We-ve got the BMW X3 going up against the Audi Q5 & Volvo XC60 across a series of six challenges to see which is the ultimate family car off-roader. So how do they compare on paper? Well starting with the X3, it-s the -30e- edition, so it-s powered by a 2-litre petrol engine coupled with an electric motor to deliver 292hp and 420Nm of torque. It weighs about 1, 990kg and costs approximately -49, 000. Next up is the Audi Q5, which has a 2-litre turbo petrol engine under the bonnet to produce 265hp and 370Nm. It weighs less than the BMW, coming in at 1, 880kg, and it-s cheaper too, costing around -43, 000. And finally we have the Volvo XC60. With a 2-litre turbo diesel up front, the XC60 puts down 197hp and 420Nm of torque. It-s weight and price is pretty similar to the Audi, at 1, 900kg & -43, 000 respectively. So what do you think - will the most powerful car in the line-up, the X3, snatch it?

These really aren't designed to be off-road cars. I have to tell you, I think today's Volvo's are absolute -sleepers-. In the last 2 years we've had four family members get new cars and all three chose Volvo without any pre-disposed prejudice. Personally I found BMW kind of spartan for the price. Surprisingly I found the Audis actually a bit boring and liked the Volvos the best in comparative luxury and handling, including looking at Mazda, Toyota, Lexus and Hyundai. I also own a 2017 Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring, but now I prefer the Volvo. FWW I had money on a Mercedes and canceled the contract after driving my Volvo, which had the Polestar upgrade already installed. I have my eye on my next SUV for in a few years. the Genesis G70. Watch out for Korean made stuff. They've really upped their game.

Come on? How is this at all legitimate when the engines are all different. trains are all different?
It is not and it-s so disappointing and annoying
Also Matt is careful not to damage the cars so he changes his driving style.
So, use a course where this doesn-t happen and use the same driver in all the cars
.
You guys know there are models of these cars that have similar petrol 2 liter turbo motors. Make sure they have similar wheel size and tire types.
Please do this over and correctly.

Where are the Mercedes Benz glc class or jaguar f Pace or Alfa Romeo Stelvio or Land Rover Discovery Sport or Lexus nx or bmw x4 or Porsche Macan or Tesla Model y or Range Rover Velar and also Matt should do a small luxury suv off road test with the jaguar e Pace and Range Rover Evoque and Audi q2 and Audi q3 and Mercedes Benz GLA Class and BMW X1 and bmw x2 and Lexus ux and Volvo xc40

The ONLY one of those 3 which had maitenance free awd system is Audi. So q5 have to be logical option for anyome which often have to travel over a offroad portion of way to some point. Volvo NEED very often maitenance for that garbage 150NM haldex, bmw not that much, but still there are some discs and plates which will wear in time, even wet working sending torque to front diff.

Lol--Quattro- as packaged in that Q5 is literally a buzzword. Guess what it-s based on? A HALDEX SYSTEM! It-s really not all that sophisticated, just slightly tuned for the car. This is why you don-t listen to manufacturers marketing speak. As auto reviewers they should really know that by now. It-s like Audi with the -supercharged- badges on bloody turbocharged cars.

This video is as usless as all the plastic claded crap hanging on the side of all the lame SUVs out there. I used to have a wrangler with 40s and dana 70s with a 6 inch lift that i actually used for offrading. These are bought by people who live in shopping centers. Just buy the sedan or wagon counter part and end this ridiculous SUV/crossover fad.

all SUVS look afful but in fact
Audi 4/5 Beacause real quattro 4-Wheel Drive system combined good desing.
BMW 1/5 Beacause BMW SUV Cars allways a terrible and they have never been able to make them decent.
Volvo 2/5 Beacause Volvo Know ho to make car safely good as possible but when looks very bad.

I am not sure why the person commentating this video was so negative/dramatic towards the BMW. It's by far the most reliable 4x4 between the three SUV's tested. The Audi only seemed better because it was driven faster in tough scenarios to help carry momentum. Kind of a pointless, silly video really.

I wonder who has guts to drive these cars off road. Unless the owner is frigging rich, most of us who barely bought them would not want to go off-road with these cars. You will lower your reselling value by 10% each time you go to off-road. :(
