Welcome to one of our heaviest reviews to date! Mat has got his hands on two Volvo HGVs, and he s about to give them the proper carwow review treatment! What we have here are two lorries provided to us by Volvo - one s diesel powered, and one s electric powered. Naturally being lorries, the layout of these two massive automotives is far different to a usual car, but that won t stop Mat from talking you through their design, interior layout and practicality. Just wait until you see how much storage there is in the cabin! What s more, he ll also take them both for a drive, and even launch them! You might think it s a bit pointless launching lorries, but trust us, these two massive machines pack a serious punch! The diesel HGV is powered by a huge 16. 1-litre straight-six twin-turbo that can put down 760hp and 3, 550Nm of torque! As for the EV, it comes with three electric motors which combine for 666hp and 2, 400Nm!

carwow, do you know that sometimes people can work in pairs so to make a truck work as many hours as possible, it should work and work, it shouldn't be plugged to the wall over night, that's ridiculous for anyone who is in logistics and have these trucks to make money. It kind of work for personal cars, not for business. The only way to make it work is if government banned any other types of trucks, but then deliveries would cost more because of wasted time, prices would increase. Great, right. Right?

if they put those sensors on that truck why did they not put them on the normal ones cause again we all know ev is just a scam, not everybody will buy those things, so a lot of manufacturers are going to lose because not everybody wants ev, its an old invention, it was replaced by the combustion engine and until now the engine is still in its first stage it can be improved, if gov, really care about the ozone why they have clean fuel more expensive than fossil fuel hmmmmmm.

Thats almost less Power than the most ev suvs these days. if its slower than the Diesel who likes to change? It could easyly have more Power without beeing too inefficent, like some cars have 10sec. Boost maybe.
Does the electric one slow down as much as some Dieseltrucks out there on steep inclines? I guess the top power Diesel wont struggle to hold 56mph?

Building electric trucks when factories are renting diesel generators because electriciti is too expensive. even in France.
If you want the trucks to be electric you have to electrify the road and made them work like the TGV. A sort of hybrid truck with no battery.
What Volvo is doing may be good for their image but it's bad for everything else.

Very nice test. When I've had check my volvo 460 with 28200kg Dmc it was 44000kg. Volvo 460 done 0-50miles per hour in 53s. When apparently volvo 460 I save did 51s. What I noticed that 750 its changing gears very early. The 50 get in 12 gear when easly could do in 11 gear. I belive that this time could me much better in manual mode.

Electric trucks will be able to connect to a system that provides them with electricity while driving, similar to some busses and trains in cities. From what i know theres some highways/autobahn testing this already. So their range basically increases to unlimited.

Amazing that humans still need to drive those in 2022. It would be so easy get them fully automated. Also, the cabin is way too tiny. If it was only one meter longer, it would be a thousand folds more comfortable for the driver.

Freightliners are more efficient. But 200 miles on electric? Nah. There are cars that can get a better range. My freightliner can drive 1500 miles before it needs fuel. Sell electric semi trucks to the RV market.

Looking good behind the wheel there Matt but you are definitely missing something to look truly at home? Ahhh that's it! About 45lb and a beer gut! Then you'd look like a proper lorry driver haha!
reply

do they use some smooth start setting on the electric version or why is it so slow without trailer? i mean i think it's good that it is slow because i think it might be better for safety.
reply

Air line (if anyone has told you) is for cleaning the dust out of the vehicle, if your tramping (stay out over night)you want the cab clean, as it is your home for the time out on the road.

Sport button no but where is the gear leaver you have a power button. On the back. He go higher in revs. Is made for pull on high hills with heavy load. I never use it.
reply

Impossible it will be a complete disaster by 2030 there is no way for them to upgrade the grid in time for an entire country of electrical cars it's a scam it will never work
