Ah, yes, downforce by mass - I got a faster best lap time than my friend when karting on a twisty UK championship outdoors track because my extra 30kg forced the slicks down more in the corners.
There are so many ways to mix the AWD recipe these days, from in-wheel hub motors, right through to boggo stuff like the original FIAT Panda 4x4 that just basically locked all the wheels in sync and needed some slip to stop the propshafts getting all wound up. This is a great video for unlocking the mystery of the effectiveness behind names like Haldex and Quattro.

Great video, but please next time show for each car what tyre you're using, because that's what makes the biggest difference in reality. I passed so many 4x4 SUVs stuck in the snow with cheap 4seasons with my front wheel drive Swift Sport only because I've fitted it with Pirelli Sottozero wich are tremendous tyres in the snow. So even if the fact that an electric car can send power to each wheel more precisely is a good explanation for the etron GT winning, I can't help but doubting that the challenge could be affected by it having better tyres.

Having owned a 4wd with twin electric motors, electric is indeed very good at getting you moving and the weight helps. But the catch is stopping where the weight is against you. This video should have done a brake test going down the hill and applied halfway. I suspect the EV would have stopped somewhere in the Cafe.

Living in Scandinavia the electric cars battery won t give me the range to go to my skiing cabin in the north. After a nightmare trip in my friends Tesla last year taking twice as long time as with my car I never going on a skiing trip with an electric car again, ever!

7: 51 that was stability in sports mode, not completely off. don't trick us Mat) you can see how after some wheelspin ESP finally kicks in. try switching it off completely and make another video with it - that would be interesting, especially with electric car

This has little to do with awd systems and a lot to do with tires, yet they tell us nothing about the tires. If they all had the same tires on then sure, but if that's the case then tell us. As unscientific as all carwow videos, but still fun; )

I think there is a way to by pass soft limiter. I saw a video that if you hold gear selector in between gear so for example N and D hold the bottom on gear selector and hold it you can feel it when gear is not selected then you rev it

Mat, I don't know which is more impressive, your use of adverbs - which sadly seemed to have become dirty words - or the traction of your test car.

Not keen on Audis so don't know if the RS4 competition has a really different quattro system compared to the RS6 but feels like it would have been nice to a petrol quattro sending more power to the rear in that corner

I do believe from the scientific standpoint, the rs6 lost to the e-tron at the highest degree slope part due to its weight being lighter. As the e-tron is heavier it has the ability to grip a bit more.

Haha I always laughed when people shout quattro power in insta videos where a small RS3 was towing a truck stuck in snow and I triggered them saying EVs would perform far better. And here is the proof.

This race is meaningless without a proper discussion of the tyres. A 2 WD on proper snow/ice tyres can beat these if they re not similarly shod.
Remember, the GT had Pirelli Zeros too.

I nearly punched the TV screen when the video ended so abruptly. Why didn't we see the cars do the whole challenge again with traction control and stability control active? Arghhhh
