Toyota Aygo X - this car's roof is AMAZING!

Say hello to the new Toyota Aygo X! Toyota s beefed up its entry-level offering, and it s now one of the smallest crossover SUVs you can buy! But is it really worth it? Well, let s check out the design. It s clear to see it s increased in size compared to the previous edition, having grown slightly wider, longer and taller! It also comes in a pretty fetching two-tone paint, and if you re willing to splash the cash, you can ever get it with a canvas folding roof! On the inside, it s clear that this is Toyota s entry-level car. There s scratchy plastic found throughout the cabin, apart from on the areas you ll touch often, such as the steering wheel and gear stick. The infotainment screen ranges between 7 - 9 inches, and the graphics are suitable for a car of this size. Thankfully Android Auto & Apple CarPlay are both available. Where the Aygo X is really let down is the engine. There s only one available, a 1-litre 3 cylinder that produces an almighty 72hp. The Aygo X starts from just 16, 000, so should you choose it over competitors such as the SEAT Ibiza or Hyundai i10? Stick with Mat to see for yourself!

It's OK to criticise cheap plastics low down but remember a good car is a light car and if it were soft touch everywhere it would be heavy. Similarly Mat critises cars for having twist beam rear suspension (not in this video, like everything else in engineering its a compromise. Multilink suspension is expensive, it can eat into boot space and most of all it is heavy. I'm sure you've driven a Fiesta, clever twist beam rear (passive steer) and yet light and we all know how well it handles. An EcoBoost Fiesta is barely over a ton and yet has 125 hp, that gives it a 0-60 well below 10s, I know that's not fantastic compared to many of the cars Mat drives but on a price v performance, economy, ride and handling it is special and it has a twist beam rear and plenty of nice light plastic low down.

Has Matt ever suggested avoid on a car review? I can't think of a video I've seen. This car to me should be. As a cross variant that suggests it is a more practical usable car. But it's not - the rear legroom is completely unacceptable if you have small children you can't get the seat in, if you have anybody over the age of 12 it's an extremely uncomfortable neck bending experience. It is truly completely useless. If you don't have kids and you really don't care about the back, just buy the standard, cheaper Aygo or a Hyundai/Kia equivalent and save some money.

WOW I d always thought you were a six footer plus! When I, well when I used to watch I m 6 4 and thought you were similar so when seeing you in the back thought it would be same ish for me, Im really as surprised your a 5 8 tiddler! But what do I know I Drive a Subaru Tribeca the 3 litre straight 6 boxer that s been tinkerd with, so well over 300 bhp (245 standard)so what do I know other than 10/14 mpg. But it makes me smile

The English market seems to have a lot of manual car options. I can't see the point of having a manual in a car like this: I see young mothers and maybe retirees buying this car for around town driving - a manual is not the easiest for when in traffic or negotiating twisty roads in small English towns or the supermarket - an auto makes more sense. Maybe it's just a cultural thing.

Too little power and therefore tedious performance. Not particularly practical either. Maybe ok purely as a town car for a single person or a couple without children. Seeing you trying to get a child seat into the rear made me realise what a totally impractical and badly designed car this is. For the same price you could get a 'Jogger', a much better car all round.

It's a new year. The truth is with this recent economy Everyone needs more than there salary to be financially stable. The best thing to do with your money is to Invest it rightly because money left for saving always end up used with no returns, I have been able to start up my year with 65, 000 from my profits. And still making more.

Hey Mat, just a quick suggestion: reveal the manufacturer's 0-60 time AFTER you've done your run. It'd make things exciting as we could make predictions and then compare the actual result and the official stat. Anyway, great review, don't know why I'm watching this if I'd never buy such a car lol.

I ve got the regular Aygo and can confirm the gearbox is really notchy and the engine is so slooooooow and underpowered. They are very economical and completely reliable as are all Toyotas. I wouldn t consider the Aygo X not whilst they use this engine. My next car will probably be the Yaris

GM must have felt it would be too competitive in America, so it won't be sold there. Every car manufacturer must clear with GM whether their vehicle can be sold in America, or GM will simply have legislation passed to prevent it. Capitalism. ..

The Aygo was always made to be a city car so the 72 hp is more than enough to sit in traffic but on long journeys they re just awful. I really don t understand the X version because anything worse than a gravel driveway would flummox it.

The previous Aygo looked like an Anime Samurai from the front, and Ikea Shelving in the back.
This Aygo looks like a Samurai Vampire from the back, and a Smart ForTwo from the front.
. which is progress, I suppose?

I sat down in an Aygo (previous one) at the dealer and noticed the seats were HORRIBLE, golf ball horrible.
So I test drove a Yaris instead. Can you give a comparison of the seats between the new and old Aygo?

reply

Toyota Aygo made from rice paper and designed for those vertically challenged.
Had a look at them and dealers want full RRP and waiting list of nearly a year when i looked.
Bought a BMW and delighted

10: 40 I get that it's good for a petrol but my Nissan Qashqai does over 70mpg sometimes and 67mpg consistently on the motorway and it's huge vehicle compared to that. A car that size should be getting 80+ mpg.
