The time has finally come for Mat to get his hands on the new Honda Civic Type R! So let s take a look at what you get with Honda s all-new hot hatch. In terms of the design, it s easily recognisable as the Type R instead of the regular Civic. Up front it comes with a vent in the bonnet, red Honda badging across the grille, more vents and wider wheel arches. Around the back, you ll find a massive rear wing, coupled with a deeper bumper and even a diffuser! On the inside, the Type R is pretty damn striking. It comes with red carpets, red floor mats, red ambient lighting, and red sports seats! It also comes with bespoke digital dials with LED shift lights, and you ll find a steering wheel covered in fake suede and red stitching. There s metallic trim around the centre console, and of course, it comes with a brushed aluminium gear knob. So with so many changes to the looks and interior, you d expect a whole lot of changes under the bonnet, right? Well, not exactly. The new Type R is equipped with the same 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo as its predecessor. However, it at least comes with a new turbocharger and straighter exhaust, which all-in-all helps it produce 329hp - 10hp more than before! But that s not all, you ll also get 420Nm 20Nm more than before. One other thing has increased compared to the predecessor. It s the price, with the new Civic Type R starting from 47, 000 - 12, 000 more than its predecessor! So is it worth it? You ll have to join Mat for this all-new review and see for yourself!

It looks really good but the price. I don't know if you can even find it at MSRP price. At 50k we go into a whole new level. Probably the right price should be around 35-38k? But that's just me. There is something in this Type R which makes it stand out from the rest. But generally Honda looks really good. Nice review!

In the US, this sells for 5k-15k over msrp if you can find one. Wish I can get one at msrp but probably not anytime soon or maybe never since this will probably be the last gen with combustion engine before we don t know lol. Might see if I can just wait for an Integra Type S later once it comes out this year

I feel like watching any automotive journalist covering this car, feels like as if they were biased towards it being a hot hatch and manual at it.
For that price?
Seriously?
You could buy a couple of older VW Golf's and have twice the fun for that amount.

boring car - previous gen much better, wilder, more aggressive, and faster than this audi-clone (don't believe me? watch throttle House's comparo of this new generation vs previous gen. Betcha this new one will be slower than previous one around nurburgrink.
reply

Apart from the design, every other review I've seen of this car basically says that performance wise is identical to the previous gen. It even loses on a drag race for some reason. And on a track it's unnoticeably quicker

I don't really like this car, I much prefer the pervious generation. The rear wing is like too subtle now, the big wing was part of Type R image for me. It's also more of a sportback than hatchback now.
reply

At this price point it starts competing with the luxury brands and I feel this car just falls short. Some cars like the 330i just do a better job imo for the same price and sometimes even less.
reply

Absolutely overpriced! Cool car, but still has a lot of boy racer to it and as mentioned in the video misses out on many things the regular civic has. I'd go for a Golf R over this any day.
reply

I m pumped that you graded the new Type R as a Buy it vehicle!
I m considering it as my next car (currently have a Honda Crosstour V6 EX-L) and the hatchback/fastback style has me spoiled.

miserable looking car, reminds me of the time the wifes Q7 blew the suspension compressor and turned into a low rider bus, it looked better than this type R - who tf wants 4 doors on a fun car?
reply

Ok this car is perfect my only complaint is they should add all-black interior options other than that it s perfect it will definitely give gr corolla and golf r tough time even if its fwd
reply

The price of this car is utterly nonsense, for something that is mechanically largely the same car, its completely absurd, who would buy it? You can ger a 1 yo porsche for this money.
reply

If you're a noob, the most important thing is the reliability and cost of maintaining the car. Do you have the funds to keep up with the car? Do you know how to wrench on your own car?
reply

I haven't watched the video. I just want to answer the question in the thumbnail, NO! A Honda is not worth 50k. That's brand new S5/M440i money. Why would you spend it on a Honda
