There are a few things we can guarantee for the year ahead. For example, we know that there ll be a whole load of new car releases. And we know that a whole load of them will be electric! But it doesn t stop there. We also know that with new cars, come all-new car trends And some of them are absolutely awful! With that in mind, we ve pulled together a list of our 10 worst car trends for 2023. 10 trends that, if we could, we would get rid of forever! For example, take the yoke steering wheel. It first appeared in the Tesla Model S Plaid, and now manufacturers such as Lexus are jumping on the bandwagon as well! But what exactly was wrong with the original steering wheel design! As the old saying goes, if it ain t broke, don t fix it! But it doesn t stop there! Did you know that manufacturers are bringing in subscription services to unlock features that are already built into a car? You could spend 30, 000+ on a New BMW and be expected to spend 15 a month to activate the heated seat!

Everything being more complicated.
You don't need an electric door opener. Maybe in a Rolls or something. But not even a top of the line S class should have that in my opinion.
Literally makes no sense.
Screens. Give me physical controls
So many brands are adopting a brand identity but making every car passionless. Mercedes is the worst at this. Every model looks the same. They all look like econoboxs that didn't have the foglights optioned on. They might not be ugly but just so boring.
Another- lack of foglights. They just look cool. I know you don't need them with LEDs now. But they just add a lot.
I get super annoyed tech is what makes a car stand out now
I wish more brands did what Skoda did. Don't need to make it all electric but just add features. Extra storage, pen holder, umbrella, those neck holders for the rear seats stuff like that. That stands out so much if you were trying to buy a car. Just have all these extra features. No need for tech.

Idk what are you talking about in Serbia we have such a good standards that 2007 are basically new and if cars cost more than 3k euros you are one of bigger flexes around the town like i drive Opel Corsa C 2002 man in my eyes that car is premium bro i haven't been on servise for 2 years cars run better than ever. Fk this new cars like why tf would you need million sensors for what bro use your eyes, side mirrors and other stuff. Like i am seeing videos of people who don't know how to park with a brand new Tesla with million cameras and other stuff. And here we are on Balkan parking between anything and not stretching our car without any tech. People are just getting dumber every year so they need all that stuff like buy a radio plug it in car with 2 front speaker and you are good to go.

This will probably mostly effect us in the USA. But Toyota seems to be getting rid of the roll down back window in their body on frame trucks and SUVs.
Like the Sequoia, Tundra, and 4runner.
The new Tundra and Sequoia lost is.
I assume the new 4Runner will.
It is so nice in summers. Having you dog just chill there. Using it for kayaks ir such.
Hell just opening it with the sun roof and windows. I see many folks using it. But I sure do.
Also I don't get why all manufacturers don't hide the rear wipers under a spider like the 4runner and Tahoe siblings do.
Even the new Sequoia doesn't do it. WHY
Every automaker should make the tailgate on crossover like the current 4runner.
A spoiler hiding the wiper.
Roll down windows.

Love your new car reviews! Very honest! Watching this review of modern tech on new cars; I have to agree with you about the reversing camera! As an Irish person who's recently bought a new car with this feature, I find myself cleaning the camera, literally EVERY day, this time of year because of dirt & grime being splashed onto it from the road by passing vehicles. I love the idea of a camera that is hidden away until reverse gear is selected, but I drive a Ford Fiesta & so, the camera's not stowed away until needed, but then; the camera's not stowed away on ANY model in the Ford range, as far as I'm aware.

I would add the disappearance of manual knobs for the basic stuff. Thanks god my Giulia still have them for the majority of the normal working drive use!
Then they give you a big fine if they caught you driving while using the smartphone (and it's correct): I'd give the same fine to car manufacturer for every single car (not model) they put out with hvac and infotainment system that force you to go through a touch screen!

Totally agree, but if i remember corectly you can turn off voice activation of the assistant in mercedes.
9: 34 toyota corolla scared me a few times beeping about how its cold and road can be slippery, like i can't tell that its cold. The worst part is that its not beeping right after turning on the car, but later in random moment and that beep sound is qute agressive, like i said it scared me a few times

The yoke is the dumbest thing ever to be committed to production by a car manufacturer. Yokes work in aeroplanes and space ships because the range of movement required is limited. They don't work in situations where you have to do multiple 360 degree rotations. Sadly it seems there are enough customers deluded enough to think that they are buying a flying saucer to warrant the introduction of them.

Every respectable car manufacturer (Toyota, Honda, Kia and few others) should just release lightweight version of their hatchback cars. Remove all unneeded electronics and weight, go back to the roots with 1990s last entire human lifetime mentality and offer it 10k. Back then cars were simple to make and cheaper to maintain. I guarantee they will sell a ton of them when put for sale.

On the 360 camera sprayer - if they are going to go through the trouble of motorizing something, why not hide the camera like mercedes coupes?
Other trends that must disappear are piano black plastic, augmented engine sounds in gas cars (no problem with the electric sounds, and capacitive touch (though the Nissan Aria s capacitive touch is cool because its real wood.

You literally defended those shit sprayers like 3 days ago also. Subscription based seats isn't that bad. You use them for 3 months, they cost about 1000 as an optional extra anyway. It saves you money. Or just don't buy a bmw. They're not worth it anymore. Literally no usefulness at all.

One point missing; colours. majority of cars you can chose between grey, silver grey, darker grey, smooth grey, grey nearly blue but still grey and with a bit of lack in black; What happened to yellow, green and blue cars? Getting to public parking to collect back the car is turning challenging

SUVs, Crossovers, EVs and bloated automatic everything boats to name a few things, I would like to see the end of!
(And hatchbacks and diesels while I'm at it! )
If a car isn't a manual petrol saloon or sports car, which isn't the size of a bus, I don't want it and will never buy it!

reply

I hate piano black plastic. It doesn't look good the moment you get into your car and so many cars, even high-end models, are using this awful material. I like clean spaces, and it's impossible to keep the piano gloss black plastic clean. Even worse is when they add it to high traffic areas
