Audi TT RS Iconic Edition review: The end of an era!

The time has come for Mat to say goodbye to the Audi TT RS! He s got his hands on the new Audi TT RS Iconic Edition - a limited-edition TT which is the last one Audi will ever produce! The question is, does this last-ever TT RS do its predecessors justice! Well when it comes to the design, there are a few notable changes. Starting around the back the Iconic Edition comes equipped with a huge carbon fibre spoiler which is mounted to the car with a swan neck design. The rear diffuser has also become more pronounced and has had carbon added to it. Around the side, there are extended side skirts, and at the front, there s an extended splitter, more additional carbon, and matrix LED headlights now come as standard. So there are a couple of notable additions to the outside, but it s a different story on the inside! The TT RS Iconic Edition comes with the RS styling pack, although whereas this would normally lead to the inclusion of red stitching throughout the car, in this instance it s coloured yellow And that s it! Otherwise, the interior is just the same as a regular TT RS. Unfortunately, there aren t any changes to be found under the bonnet either! Lift up the hood and you ll find the same 2. 5-litre 5-cylinder turbo as in a regular TT RS, with the power output also remaining the same, at 400hp and 480Nm. In terms of the chassis, it has been lowered slightly and comes equipped with stiffer suspension, but otherwise, the car pretty much matches the regular edition. Cylent: I drove the TT RS for 3 years (also unlimited vMax for occasional Autobahn runs) and really miss it - such great fun on country and mountain roads and an unequalled sound. Not fond of the external flashy bits on this one.

As an Audi TT RS owner myself, I am disappointed by this but, not surprised. Considering that this car has about 90% of the previously discontinued Audi Sport kit on it that retailed for 16. 5k USD, I can t say that the price increase is all that surprising. Now, if it also included the wheels and Akropovic exhaust, then the price may make more sense. But considering how painfully easy it is to make more power out of these cars with a tune or how well their handling improves with just an upgraded rear sway bar, it does seem pretty lazy on their part to offer the swan song of the TT in this way. I think customers would have preferred that 20 grand going into something that underscored its performance, not styling.

They did it with the R8 gt as well
A lazy attempt at making serious track inspired cars
No more power
No chassis upgrades
I was expecting at least 450 and some beefed up roll bars, springs, dampers and other bits and pieces
I bet you can get a normal ttrs and have it done up to look like that for no more than 10 grand

Why are we still measuring braking distance? Model S Plaid breaks in 31 meters but as we've seen that doesnt really matter because the breaks lose power after a few moments of intense braking, especially on track. So what matters in how long the brakes last

When this generation came out I was looking forward to buying one. until Audi got rid of the manual. What I love about the TT is that it reminds me of the old 911 s with its size and rear seats unusable but convenient and iconic.

Still my favorite interior of any modern car. Using the vents to integrate physical dials for climate control is just so inspired. A usability and design dream that should be replicated more.

carwow this is very similar to what they did with the Audi R8 GT special edition. It s very disappointing, just buy a Porsche that has all of the VW and Audi engineered out of it.
reply

This is probably my favorite Audi car at the moment, only if it had the modern interior with touchscreens and the small shifter like Audis nowadays. This interior is really outdated

i would love to see a drag race between this iconic edition and the normal TTRS, just to see if there really is even a justification for the 20000 pound price increment
reply

This has Jonny goes to Halfords written all over it. Order a regular TTRS while you can and the public will look at your car for the right reasons, not this abomination.

man I love the TT RS. Drove a 2018 pre OPF vor 3 years. Absolutely stunning car. Interieur is among the best interieurs I have ever seen. The engine is just mental.

I caught this video just 5 minutes after release. Yeah! Gunning for 1 second next.
Matt looks good in pink dress
Let s make him wear one for the whole show.

My favorite part is Matt asking Audi about the engine being the same. Would have loved to see the guys face like that one video of the car with the fake exhaust lol
reply

Audi is getting rid of all their iconic designs and engines and replacing them big fat Q cars. This is what happens you design cars for politicians and not customers.
reply

This Edition is pathetic. German car manufacturers just don't try these days because they know that the customers will buy any crap they throw on the market
reply

I always loved the TT, it's such an under rated car, the 'Hairdresser' label was unwarranted! I remember the launch of the Original and what an impact it had!
reply

Agree with the verdict 100%. Aside from the sick carbon fiber bit, feels a little cheesy and quite the money grab by Audi. Very similar to the Golf R333 edition
reply

all good cars production are ending i m 19 and i want to drive all those cars, when i will start making money i think only ev will be avilable in the market
reply

Audi just did the same thing with the R8. They seem to be begging for money without justifying the price. I recommend you buy something else with the money.
reply

The TT is a good looking car, but you don't need the iconic. Not really good to compare with your green car though, which is an acquired taste.
