Is this BRABUS the BEST tuned SUV on sale?

It s the top-of-the-range performance edition of the new Smart #1, but the question is, does it deserve to come adorned with the Brabus name, which is often synonymous with luxury and high performance? Well, let s start off with the power stats. The normal #1 comes with a single electric motor which can produce 272hp. However this Brabus edition comes with an additional electric motor on the front axel, and combined it can put down 428hp! What s more, it also has a claimed 0-60mph time of just 3. 9 seconds! Then we have the design, and there are clearly a number of styling changes over the normal car. At the front you have two vents in the bonnet, along with a red effect on the grille and an extended front splitter. There are exclusive alloy designs included, along with an extended side skirt with some red trim. Then finally at the back the are some more visual changes, including an extended spoiler. All-in-all the changes are mostly visual, but it certainly looks more aggressive than the normal #1! Step inside and it s very much the same story. You ll find smatterings of red stitching and colouring throughout the cabin, but otherwise, the #1 Brabus is pretty much identical to the normal car - but that s no bad thing! The Smart #1 Brabus costs around 43, 000 - about 4, 000 more than the range-topping Smart #1. So is it worth it! You ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

5: 42 Matt has a great point here, straight line performance has nothing to do with when we're talking about the true level of performance in a car, it doesn't matter it's an electric or ice cars. being said, we all should wait and see what the Hyundai has to offer with their N division on their EVs, especially the Ioniq 5 N!

If they offer you a high performance EV as a bargain compared to a gas powered hothatch that roughly costs twice as much at least, could it be that YOU are the product? The system desperatly seeks to hook you up with this EV-garbage whatever it takes so what is the goal? To make you a favour? Think twice.

4: 50 This point really hurts when it comes to the new electric car age. Just the sound of a nice engine and exhaust and hearing downshifts and rev blips just adds to the experience of what makes driving so great. Just sad to think tunnel blasts will be a thing of the past.

Electric vehicles are not green, fossil fuel cars are twice as recyclable twice the range & don't get effect by cold or warm weather, it's a fast milk float that destroys roads & gives more emissions than a petrol car & more expensive to buy & run, stop reviewing milk floats

2: 03 WHAT THE HECK is that 7-figure car doing there!
Over 4 seconds 0-60 in a Zenvo - on DRY tarmac.
I remember back in the day, when Top Gear was still relevant, they tested a Zenvo and it caught fire. Maybe Zenvo shouldn't do supercars.

Nice car, 5 cool features are rather underwhelming! Raced one of these Brabus versions in my Born E-boost and bet it, then check then stats on my phone and realised she was prob using half throttle and playing with me!
reply

My concern with all these EVs having silly power is that they are going to be driven by people who have no experience previously. Accidents are going to increase and insurance premiums will rise accordingly
reply

If my memory serves me correctly the sister car. Volvo EX30 Performance has the same power for less money. With equal build quality. Unlike the MG4 X-power which has cheap fit & finish with poor brakes.
reply

not buying an EV/human sized Rc car, matt watson stop shoving these WEF/Klaus Schwab agenda wagons down our throats, not buying it, not interested and cant afford it, go parrot to the elites instead.
reply

Looks great - I also prefer the Brabus above the normal Smart#1 if I can afford of course, also the MG4 - it is the cousin of the VolvoEX30 right? Same Geely platform and drive train?
reply

Before hashtags were a thing the '# ' symbol was used to denote a number, for example, #1 = Number 1.
Smart hashtag 1 or Smart Number 1, which makes more sense as a name to you?

10: 04 - another annoying feature. That panel gap around the corner of the boot lid is awful! Wide at the bottom and side and narrow on the diagonal. Poor design.

I see about 5 or more persons saying they commented first.
Nice looking car. ugly wheels. not Brabus enough. mini Cooper JCW is good enough for me.

reply

That much power in a car like that pointless. We all know the range on any ev is trash when using things like heater, AC, radio Phone charging ECT
reply

Hi Watson, I noticed you recently created a video on shorts of the Volvo cx30s cup holders. Are you going to release a video of the Volvo cx30?
reply

It's not that good, centre console is far to large with lots of glosse plastic.
Software is like a kids tablet, no proper heating controls.

reply

Well of course the electric cars don't perform like ICE cars, they're not ICE cars. I don't know, you just can't get the presenters these days.
reply

Hats off to mat for being so enthusiastic and up beat when reviewing gopping cars like this ev cross over thing.
Another great review Matt

reply

Evs are superior in performance to a combustion engine. But I'll take a raw combustion engine over all that chinese rebadged soulless crap.
reply

Forget high performance ICEs a humble Hyundai i20N or a Fiesta ST3 could batter this in terms of driver experience. cheaper too.
