The Legacy birthed Subarus best selling vehicle, the Subaru Outback. It was driving rallies before the Impreza WRX and even won with legendary driver, Colin McRae. From its trusted All-Wheel Drive to its sleeper Legacy 2. 5 GT Turbo, the Legacy might not be the hottest Subaru in town, but it is Subaru's longest running model. See how the Subaru Legacy forged a whole new road in marketing strategies and set Subaru on the path to success

Me second car was a 97 Legacy 2. 5GT that was white and a 5 speed. I built and raced that car in the early 2000s and had the ONLY modified Subaru in my town and even in the neighboring counties I was only like one of 4 or 5 total. I kick myself DAILY for selling her but I had some. substance problems. Now I'm 7 years sober, with two kids and single parent BUT, I'm slowly building my 00 Forester L into a back road monster. I already have an H6 from an SVX with a fresh 30k mile rebuild going into the car to get the swap done and all the kinks worked out HOWEVER! I DO have another SVX H6 being prepped as we speak for a sick twin turbo setup where each bank of 3 cylinders and a turbo act like their own seperate 3 cylinder engine if one side blows or has issues but runs together smoothly when all is good in the Subaru hood. So if you're ever out in Southern Indiana, hmu and I'll give you a tour of my Scoob-DaVille.

come on no mention of the fact that the 5th gen legacy was basically a test bed for the new WRX with its low mounted turbo, equal length header, and non optional 6 speed manual? how about that is the best handling one ever made despite being heavier than all previous models? OR THE FACT THAT LESS THAN 2K EVER MADE IT TO THE STATES IN A 3 MODEL YEAR RUN! or that they offered a PREETTTY cool 2L diesel option in other countries? or than the newest gen has brought back the turbo and runs off the best engine Subaru currently makes. even if its stuck to a CVT only

You should have covered more of the Japanese special editions. Im in Canada I just got a JDM 4th gen GT and its not 2. 5 like our spec. b, but its a 2. 0 with dual AVCS and twin scroll TD04, rated at 280hersepwrs. I think its a better engine than the twin turbo 2. 0. It has bilstiens but not the aluminum control arms of the spec. b

I love Subarus. I grew up with a 97 Impreza and an 03 Forester. My dad has had 3 Outbacks (06, 08, 18. My step dad has a 2010 outback. My brother has an 05 Impreza and I'm looking at a liberty (legacy) wagon or a Forester for my first car.

I loved this episode but I wish they would have gone into the different trim models a bit more. Like the 3. 0H and such. I'd love to get my hands on a really clean 2. 5gt. some of my favorite sleepers. Also James, you're looking trim man!

1st Gen TRUE turbo engine is the EJ20G, DOHC, with Watercooler - NOT OFFERED IN USA (hehehe) - which carried on to the first Impreza with revised heads and air to air IC. Not that garbage with SOHC heads and no IC EJ22 turbo USA got.

As a big Subaru guy and legacy owner I will say this has been the only up the speed I didnt enjoy didnt even talk about the lengadary ej22t closed deck that came in the legacy Ss made it handle power way ahead of its time

James I've always liked you, you're currently now one of my favorite car person. But now I respect you more almost envy you. Btw Legacy is my favorite Subaru and I think my favorite medium size car. Specially ez30 specb ones.

For the 3rd gen outbacks they had an XT model, which was basically the wrx engine put into the outback. You could also get it with a manual. So almost all the speed of the legacy GT but with the capability of an Outback
