Jz vs ls - the best engines in the world!

Rating: 4.5; Vote: 2
The JZ and LS based engines are two of the world's most popular choices for swaps and tuning. The 2JZ out of the Supra holds boost like nothing else, and the LS1, LS6, LT1, LT2, and LS7 from the corvette have all made good power. But these motors also came in cars like the Aristo and the Silverado. They also get swapped into 240sx, M3 s, and even mini coopers! But which one is the best? This video is where you find out. Versus put two automotive giants toe to toe and Joey Rassool tallies up points to see who is the victor. Anything from heritage, performance, and even availability are taken into consideration

My Predictions: 1st question: Why not both? Cost and Availability: LS They are quite literally everywhere. Cheap, easy to get running. Swap simplicity: LS This comes down to all the intangibles that go into an engine/transmission swap. All the small details that only come into light once you're knee deep in the swap; things that prevent you from simply going form point a to point b. Power: toss-up Power per unit displacement: 2JZ. Undeniably. Overall power potential: LS. Displacement is displacement; no real way to get around it. Reliability: toss-up 2JZ: it's a Toyota. If not overbuilt, it'll likely outlast its owner. LS: the epitome of nearly 50 years of R&D, refinement, and perfection of one core engine design. I've seen both engines last over 300, 000 miles mildly modified. Culture: 2JZ. Hands down. While not as widespread as the LS, it's typical following/fanbase is far more passionate about it. Final verdict: Huh. Turns out I was wrong on multiple accounts. Good to know. I'd still love to have both of these in my garage either way.

That does make sense for the US and I agree with your findings. However the only things that come with an LS here in South Africa are chevy ss's and chevy utes other than that nothing that I can think of. Im pretty sure I've seen more cars with a 2j than an LS even though the utes and ss's are really common just like Australia. I still agree with you guys even though I'm a ricer jdm fan boy all day lol Thanks for the awesome video. You guys are killing it and it's much needed in these times

The Pontiac Grand Prix photo they used for the front wheel drive LS was wrong. They used the base Grand Prix or maybe the supercharged gtp, but it was the Grand Prix gxp with the LS. which can be noticed by its smaller fog lights and a vent on each side of the wheel wells. (Love your work, guys at donut! Keep the videos coming)

I personally like how affordable the American V8 parts are, not just LS but most of the push rod stuff are all really good for budget friendly and reliable power Putting a camshaft in a hellcat is cheaper than putting them in a jz Not to mention they can make more horsepower from less boost

I m not saying the new Supra s B58 is a bad engine. But it is a BMW engine and the main reason for that is Toyota couldn t invest the money to develop a new engine for the new supra. But I think Supra fans would have been even happier if they just re-used the 2JZ block.

Magazines have boosted stock ls engines and have made insane power without killing it. The ls can handle more power than u think. Honestly they're both even, i would have both. Picking between them is like picking children

There's a group of Aussies that go into all of the intricate engineering in the 2JZ that just make it a better engine by design. Gotta love the LS but from a purely engineering standpoint the 2JZ is unmatched

It so funny seeing these Videos from Germany. Outside the US its like 10 Times easier to get a good 2JZ than a LS. In Europe big displaysment cars are just not viable and cool. Here we are generally more about BOOST
