normally im only watching but as im with w140 model for over 8years i need to mention. Hand rest in middle got 3 positions so its not only open close. you can set the height. Rest button on climat control console its cool system to get heating when engine is off as long as eng is hot(long. Small wheel in front of hand rest can trasfer music from front to back of car(in case someone talk on back seats. No rear windscreen curtain in s500? my s320 got it. Car roof cant be lower. They wanted to make it lower but mercedes stands with this height as they want to tall person wearing hat could have a seat without taking hat off and thats why roof line is like it is. Back in trunk triangle should me attached to back of the trunk so when trunk is open triangle is visible. Im talking about EU version(might be different in USA) Assuming this all its car of my life. Never wanted different car, never ever. Its big, no its huuuuge and it got nothing with Sport never ever. S switch stands for Standard not sport. Back to rear seats they are going forward backwards (this model havent got thos option) Its really hard to tell what was standard what not because S500 should be richest model and didnt cover half of things my s320 got. Merc got so many options and all was up to customer so its almost impossible to say what is standard what not. I even heard rumors that for special pay you could have standard merc interior in thoose funny squares instead leather: .

The door armrest storage compartment. My Subaru has a similar (although not nearly as nice-looking) door-armrest storage compartment. I had a coworker who had the same year/model of Subaru, and we drove to lunch in his car. His clock was wrong, and it bugged me (hadn't set it for DST) I asked him if I could fix it sure! I have no idea how to do that! So I set it.
Any other tricks about my car you want to tell me? he responded sarcastically.
Do you know about the storage compartment in the armrest? I asked as I opened it.
He looked shocked. I've had this car for 12 years, and I had no idea that was there. (Obviously someone in his family did, there were a few quarters in the passenger side one)

I'm not 100% sure, so don't shoot me, but I believe it DOES have a proper cupholder, other than the crap in the glovebox. There's a flap on the center console, right under the armrest, which you press and the cupholder pops out. I have a C180 with a similar system.
EDIT: Also, Doug doesn't seem to know that much about Mercedes. Some of the things he points out as unusual or innovative on this model had been introduced on Mercedes models a long time before the W140.
EDIT 2: Get your filthy knees out of that fine leather interior!

Ooooft. I thought you did a video explaining you only reviewed the best examples you could find, otherwise you wouldn't review it?
Well, this car is an absolute shed. Why are you reviewing this example? Even from far away, you can tell it's been painted poorly, and has ditchfinder tyres. Surely there is a better one in Southern Cali somewhere? Looks like something Hoovie would buy.

Finally thank you Doug. I got also w140 7. 3 Brabus engine swapped. I bought as a 420 amg than ordered new engine from Dubai. Build not bought my only favourite car second car is s124 e300 try to save some money for build that one too. If I will collect enough money planned to swapping some 60 engines. But I don't think will find for a cheap price. Doug do some s124 special.

Don't tell me, you do not get bothered by the asymmetrical dashboard! The w140 is an amazing car! So many people bash the w220 but it's actually very good cruiser. The second generation was better in everyway. We have the linguatronic in our w220, basically it's the same as in the w140. It's not that bad. It's works pretty well if you say number after number.

Doug, I have fond memories of the Go, Go 80's and seeing the Mercedes S-Class everywhere! When the new model premiered in the fall of 1991, I liked what I saw. It still surprises me to think back to how few of the W140 models I saw on the road. I thought sticker-shock only happened at Buick dealerships.

Der besten oder nich. Mercedes needs to quit quoting Gottlieb Daimler, because as you said Doug, the last true Mercedes to follow his edict was this W140. Oh BTW, the S-Class had headlamp wipers starting in the late 1970s.

The self-folding mirror were installed because people couldn t bring it on the car transportation train to the island of Sylt, because of the width of the car. So Mercedes-Benz installed self-folding mirrors
